TRAINING
THE #FITAWAY
The Flooring Industry Training Association (FITA) shines a spotlight on its course offerings and dedication to upskilling the sector.
FITA is an independent, not-for-profit training organisation, delivering specialist floorcovering education for the industry, by the industry. Co-founded by the Contract Flooring Association (CFA) and the National Institute of Carpet and Floorlayers (NICF), FITA operates two fully equipped training centres in Loughborough and Kirkcaldy. Between them, over 20 different courses are offered across a wide spectrum of flooring types, including carpet, LVT, sheet vinyl, wood, linoleum, and subfloor preparation.
The surge in entry-level courses delivered at FITA in recent years is an encouraging sign for the sector. The enthusiasm of new installers, many of whom arrive eager to learn, fuels an engaging training environment. FITA’s Training Consultants often share stories of early starts and late finishes, driven not by obligation but by the genuine interest and commitment of the learners.
And it’s no surprise. Engaging in private training is a serious commitment; apart from the course fees, a delegate also has to consider lost earnings and associated travel or accommodation costs. That’s why FITA ensures every course delivers an immediate return on investment. Delegates leave not only with new skills but with the confidence to apply them straight away.
FITA courses are built on continuous feedback from both learners and instructors. Courses are structured to allow plenty of time for learning, especially at the entry level. This creates a safe, supportive environment where learners can try, fail, and improve without pressure.

LVT INSTALLATION – BASIC COURSE (3 DAYS)
Starting with essential subfloor prep including fabricated underlayments and smoothing compounds, this course then focuses on straight lay LVT fitting. The emphasis is on developing strong core skills using essential tools, enabling delegates to carry out installations confidently without shortcuts like undercutting architraves.
COMMERCIAL SHEET VINYL INSTALLATION (4 DAYS)
A strong foundation in commercial fitting techniques such as back marking, scribing, coving, and joining, this course is designed to translate easily from FITA’s training bays to real-world commercial settings – maximising the value of the installer to contractors.
FITA was established and continues to be guided by two leading trade associations – CFA and NICF – ensuring that every course reflects the needs of real employers, real installers, and real jobs. As a not-for-profit, FITA’s sole mission is to raise the skill level across the flooring industry, and it’s been doing just that for over 20 years, for industry, by industry.
Whether you’re upskilling existing staff or expanding your own capabilities into new flooring types, FITA is the training partner you can trust.
