NEED FOR SPEED The experts at Kerakoll share some tips on fast tracking your LVT installation.
Design luxury vinyl tile (LVT) floors can be complicated to lay, but the nature of the job means that contractors are often under pressure to complete the job as soon as possible. Using the right products, it is possible to install a new LVT floor in less than a day, with careful substrate preparation the key to a failsafe installation.
Firstly, ensure that the surface is sound and perfectly level. For refurbishments, where the previous floor consists of sound ceramic or vinyl tiles, it is a relatively simple task to ensure that they are all firmly stuck down and not cracked or broken. Then, prime them with Prime+ Grip and use a suitable smoothing compound to cover them and level and smooth the floor. Proflow Rapid is our recommendation; this double component, ultra- rapid setting smoothing compound is ready for laying impervious flooring such as LVT and vinyl after 60 minutes. It has excellent flow and adhesion properties, is moisture-tolerant and can be used to smooth the floor prior to the installation of a DPM.
Where the existing floor has had to be lifted, adhesive and flooring grade bitumen residues are often left behind, and many smoothing compounds cannot be used over these. Again, Proflow Rapid is the product to turn to as it works well over these residues, providing a smooth surface on which to lay the floor.
For a new installation where there is still moisture in the subfloor, use Proflow MVS. This a highly flexible double component smoothing compound that has all the attributes of a high- performance smoothing compound, but with the added MVS capability that works to block the passage of moisture from the substrate. It can be used without priming, meaning that there is only the smoothing compound to apply, with no need for a primer

and DPM. Proflow MVS is rapid setting and drying, allowing foot traffic after 90 minutes and floorcoverings to be applied after four hours.
Where the screed is dry and time is at a premium, Proflow Rapid can be used as an alternative.
Once the floor has been smoothed, the Eco-3000 range of adhesives should be used to install the floorcovering. Eco-3000 HT is a high temperature universal adhesive is suitable for installing LVT, PVC, vinyl flooring as well as carpet and textiles on to a wide variety of substrates. It is ideal for use in conservatories, as well as other buildings with large expanses of glass where direct sunlight may heat the floor. Eco-3000HT has been formulated with a fast tacking-off time. Flooring can be installed after as little as 10 minutes, when the adhesive is semi-tacked off and has reached its ‘anti-slide’ state.
Where a design floor is being installed, Eco-3000 PS is the go-to adhesive. This pressure sensitive adhesive has been specially formulated with a short open time to give it excellent initial grab and an excellent final bond strength ensuring a firm hold between the floorcovering and the substrate. Eco-3000 PS has a fast-tacking off time meaning that installation can begin after as little as 10 minutes.
