F. Ball and Co. Ltd.’s MED-certified Styccobond F3 adhesive has been chosen to install bespoke carpet throughout luxury cruise liner the Vasco da Gama.
When Mystic Cruises acquired the prestigious Vasco da Gama cruise ship, an extensive refurbishment was carried out. The refit involved Portuguese manufacturer of commercial textile floorcoverings Lusotufo installing carpet in 412 cabins, a gallery, restaurant and casino, a total area of 7,000m2 F. Ball’s water-based, rubber/resin adhesive.

Styccobond F3 is suitable for installing a wide range of textile floorcoverings and is tested in accordance with International Maritime Organisation (IMO) standards and carries the ‘wheelmark’ logo on product packaging, meaning it is approved for use in marine and offshore applications.

The adhesive offers excellent wet grab, rapidly builds up a high bond strength and is protected against bio-degradation. As well as being used in marine environments, it can be applied over Stopgap levelling compounds, structurally sound, smooth, dry subfloors of concrete and sand/cement screed, plywood, flooring grade chipboard and hardboard. It is also suitable for use over normal underfloor heating systems.
The addition of the 219m-long, 630-cabin Vasco da Gama to the Mystic Cruises line builds on the company’s focus on smaller cruise ships, with under 1,000 passengers, to create a more personalised, safe and intimate cruise experience for their guests. It will primarily serve the British and German markets.
