RESILIENT FLOORING STRONG SAVINGS

Simon Testa, managing director of Stainbusters Cleaning and Hygiene and Bona Certified Contractor, explains how resilient floor renewal saves time and costs for clients.

As a contractor, I have managed a number of resilient flooring refurbishment projects across different sectors. It has always been an attractive option for clients. Some are attracted by the environmental aspect, and the fact that extending the life of an existing floor is kinder to the planet. Renewing a surface that is already in situ bypasses the need to exhume the old floor and dispose of it, which can be difficult to recycle and therefore, unfortunately, landfill may be its final destination. The CO2 energy savings are significant, enabling organisations to reduce their carbon footprint by up to 90% and put in place climate action plans.

The time savings that renewal generates are also a big plus point for many, especially in sectors that need to minimise the period in which certain areas are out of bounds such as schools, hospitals, and commercial premises. Typically, 300m² can be renewed in just three to four days.

However, the stand-out benefit for most clients at this point in time is the cost savings. Clients are not always initially aware that resilient floor renewal is significantly more cost-effective than a like-for-like replacement. Now more than ever, clients are reducing

spend and looking for ways to get more out of their budgets. Being able to explain to a client that opting for a renewal could save around 50% while also delivering the quality and end result of a brand-new installation is always well received.

RESILIENT RENEWAL IN ACTION

One of our most recent projects is West Lakes Academy in Cumbria, a vibrant 11-18 secondary school that supports a dynamic community of 1,200 students. The Academy, with an Outstanding Ofsted rating, is committed to delivering the highest quality education in an environment that inspires success within its state-of-the-art £26m building.

In a world where resources and energy are becoming scarcer and impact on the climate is ever increasing, West Lakes Academy took the wise decision to renovate and renew the surfaces that needed attention, rather than replace.

Our project focused on the Academy’s reception area and five science classrooms, utilising the Bona Resilient Floor renewal system. It was a highly successful project which enabled the
