MAKE YOUR UNDERLAY FLEX
When it comes to getting maximum value and longevity from your underlay recommendation think density first, says floorwise.
While thickness has the biggest impact on an underlay’s perceived comfort – giving more ‘squish’ between the fingers – for customers that want a more long-lasting underlay which delivers excellent value over its lifetime, density matters most. The ability of the underlay to recover time after time, or bouncebackability as floorwise calls it, is determined by the density of the foam used. With this better recovery comes a longer lasting underlay that’s less likely to compress over time, giving customers lasting comfort.
floorwise offers a range of densities for its pre-consumer recycled PU foam underlays, enabling customers to get their perfect feel and support. These start at Medium Density and peak at Ultra High Density which is recommended for contract locations and the range offers a wide choice of underlay densities available in thicknesses from 8mm to 11mm. For many homes, the ‘sweet spot’ can be found in the floorwise Extra High Density Plus (EHD+) underlay range. This density remains extremely competitively priced, while also delivering an underlay that recovers time after time.
With floorwise Flexilay, customers can enjoy this great long-term performance and excellent value in 9mm, 10mm and 11mm thicknesses. Made in Britain, the Flexilay collection is one of floorwise’s most popular choices and gives homes sublime comfort in any room. No matter what thickness is chosen, with Flexilay underlay carpets feel more comfortable underfoot and homes stay warmer and quieter too thanks to its excellent acoustic and thermal insulation. Flexilay is also a quality option
MAPEI PLAYS KEY ROLE IN SUSTAINABLE STRUCTURE

Hebburn Tri-Station is one of 17 community fire stations located across Tyne and Wear in the North East of England. The new carbon neutral station replaces the previous Hebburn Community Fire Station, which served its community for nearly 60 years. Compromising two buildings, the site includes staff accommodation, offices and bays for emergency vehicles, as well as a training facility to support and enhance the skills of specialist rescue, as well as rope rescue fire fighters.
All walls, floors, the roof and structure of the buildings have been designed to be as energy and thermal efficient as possible, as reflected throughout the specification. Special features include photovoltaic roof panels, ground source heat pumps, light vehicle charging (EV) points, a wildflower meadow to help increase local biodiversity and a rainwater recycling system.
A Mapei subfloor preparation system has been installed at the new Hebburn Tri-Station in South Tyneside – one of the UK’s first carbon neutral emergency service tri-stations. Home to Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS), Northumbria Police and the North East Ambulance Service, the new two- storey building was delivered by Esh Construction, working

During the preparation of the building’s power floated concrete subfloors, Mapeproof One Coat damp proof membrane was applied throughout to control residual and constructional moisture. Eco Prim T Plus universal acrylic primer was then applied and the subfloors were levelled with Latexplan Trade – a protein-free, low odour levelling and smoothing compound with high compressive strength. Both the primer and levelling compound feature very low VOC EMICODE: EC1 Plus formulations, promoting a safe application and environment.

that has been independently tested to exceed British Standards and comes with a non-woven fleece on the underside to ensure maximum stability.
Richard Bailey, managing director of floorwise, said: “While we offer an extensive range of densities, with our Flexilay collection, busy homes can benefit from great durability which will ensure lasting comfort at a price that won’t break the bank. So, if you’re looking to recommend quality products to your customers, rather than simply the cheapest, you really can’t go wrong in suggesting Flexilay as the start of a fantastic floor.”
