10 QUESTIONS 10 QUESTIONS WITH…
Each issue, we ask a flooring industry professional 10 Questions. This month, we chatted to Adrian Cox, managing director of Fix-A-Floor UK.
social media expertise would elevate Fix-A-Floor to yet another level. I think social media is something we all as businesses need to embrace and exploit to our advantage as it helps directly engage directly with customers – something Steven has done to a tee.
Q5
What’s the best advice you could give to
someone new coming into
the industry? Do your research and always listen to advice from others within the industry, never disregard anything, always be open to new ideas and strategies and finally, if you believe in what you have, never give up.

Q3 Q4 38
What was your first job? Not counting my paper round,
my very first Job after leaving school was a casual job packing Kipling Mince Pies at Wimbush Bakery.
How did you get into the industry?
After having an issue with loose and hollow floor tiles in my kitchen and not wanting to replace the entire floor, I realised that there was nothing on the market in the UK to solve this without the expense of removing and replacing. Following lots of research and trials, Fix-A-Floor was introduced to the UK Market and this year marks 10 years.
What has been your proudest moment?
Winning the Tiling Association’s Best Innovation Award 2023. To be recognised by the UK Tile trade meant so much to us. As a result, Tilers, professionals and contractors know there’s a viable way to repair loose or hollow flooring without the expense of removing or replacing.
If you could hire anyone to be part of your team,
who would it be and why? Steven Bartlett. His knowledge and
Q6 Q7
What’s the first thing you’d buy if you won
the lottery? I’d buy a villa near the Sierra Nevada in Spain, where I could not only have some nice summer beach holidays but would also be close the mountains as I’m a passionate snowboarder.
If you could have a dinner party with any
three people, dead or alive, who
would you choose and why? Stephen Fry because he would be a
really interesting and knowledgeable person to have dinner with. Steve Jobs as his vision and innovative ideas got Apple to where it is today and finally, David Attenborough. He is unquestionably a legend in his own right and someone who has been ever present in our all our lives from childhood to adulthood.
Q8
What did you want to be when you were
growing up? Funnily enough, I wanted to be a travel rep. After being told by my careers teacher to be realistic, I left school with a driven determination and learnt Spanish at night school. I eventually fulfilled my ambition at 21, spending two years working and living in Mallorca for Thomson.
Q9
What do you think the future holds for flooring?
As we come out of the cost-of-living crisis home improvement will sky-rocket and as long as we incorporate change and new trends we will be in a very strong position. I think the environment and sustainability are going to be key to this growth too and, if we can embrace this in a cost-effective way, the future is very bright indeed.
Q10
Paul Sycamore, training manager at
Bostik asks: If you had a time machine, what historical event
would you want to see and why? I’d love to go back to Pompeii. I’ve always had admiration for the Romans and their way of life. After all, they also were masters of the mosaic flooring, which after thousands of years is still in-situ. I think we may be able to learn a lot from them.
