EDITOR’S VOICE Hello and welcome to our March issue.

Hopefully, by the time you read this the weather will have taken a turn for the better and we will be on our way to longer days, lighter evenings and a bit of sunshine. As we head into spring, we start to look forward to spending more time outdoors and planning improvements to our outside spaces.

With inside space often at a premium and the growing trend for ‘bringing the outdoors in’ architects and interior designers are now seeking to create a seamless transition between the inside and out. One way to achieve this is by using the same flooring throughout. With this in mind, we feature a wealth of advice on how to specify the correct materials to ensure your outdoor flooring installation continues to look and perform at its best throughout its lifetime.

For interiors where it’s not possible to make a literal connection with the outside, another way to incorporate elements of nature is with the floor. As well as contributing to our sense of wellbeing and health, natural floorcoverings can also bring sustainability credentials to a project. We hear from the experts on how to select sustainably sourced wood, how to recondition an existing wooden floor and advice on moisture management when working with natural materials.

We head to Brooklyn in our Makeover of the Month feature for a touch of inspiration on how to create a stimulating and homely learning space by mixing wood-look flooring with pops of colour to mimic the outdoors.
