10 QUESTIONS WITH… Q5
What’s the best advice you could give to
someone new coming into
the industry? Talk to people who have been in the industry for a long time. There is a huge amount of knowledge and experience out there; why reinvent the wheel if you can learn from those who invented it the first time?
Also, talk to others who are also just starting out. They can bring an energy and appetite for change that can shape the direction of the industry in the years to come.
Q1
What was your first job? My first job was working as a
laboratory technician in a microbiology lab, helping to ensure that food on supermarket shelves was safe and determining shelf lives.
Q2
Q3 Q4
How did you get into the industry?
When I joined Saint-Gobain Weber as a quality control technician at our Flitwick plant. The team and I were responsible for ensuring that all the products that Weber manufactured left the factory meeting or exceeding industry standards and ensuring our customers got a reliable product, every time.
What has been your proudest moment?
The proudest (and happiest) moment of my life was the day I married my beautiful wife.
If you could hire anyone to be part of your team,
who would it be and why? Elon Musk. While he is a controversial figure, I love the passion and energy that he brings to innovation. I’d use that energy to help drive Weber further towards our goal of being the most sustainable supplier of flooring products in the UK.

What’s the first thing you’d buy if you won
the lottery? I’d hire a private jet to take all my friends and family for a long holiday to somewhere like the Maldives.
If you could have a dinner party with any
three people, dead or alive, who
would you choose and why? David Attenborough, Sean Lock and Winston Churchill.
David Attenborough because he’s a national treasure who has led an extraordinary life, and I would get to hear that iconic voice. Sean Lock would just be a brilliant laugh. I love his dry sense of humour and was very sad to learn of his recent passing. Winston Churchill was an inspirational leader with a unique insight into what was perhaps the most perilous time for our country and the world.
Q8
What did you want to be when you were
growing up? I wanted to be a mechanic. I loved the idea of working with cars and bikes, repairing and perfecting them. I never did end up following up on this but maybe one day I will get myself a clapped-out old banger and try and fix it up.
Q9
Each issue, we ask a flooring industry professional 10 Questions. This month, we chatted to Adam Schreiber, flooring product manager at Saint-Gobain Weber.
What do you think the future holds for flooring?
I believe the future for flooring is all about sustainability. The industry is becoming much more conscious about the impact we have on the world and the changes we all must make. In the years to come I believe, and hope, that sustainability will be at the very top of the list when people are selecting products, solutions and services.
I’m proud to work for Weber, knowing that we intend to do everything we can to support this as we care a great deal about the environment and the wellbeing of everyone who interacts with our products, from application to end use.
Q10
Graham Marshall, National Sales
Manager Key Accounts Abingdon Flooring, asked: What is the product launched over the years which brings back the
best memories? During 2019 we introduced Low Dust Technology to our full range of levelling compounds and screeds, improving the comfort of applicators and making our products more pleasant to use. As part of the advertising campaign for this, I got to cover my boss in dust. By the end of the photo shoot, he was an absolute mess. Call it petty revenge, but I thoroughly enjoyed it!
