10 Questions with... Paul Jakeway


Each month we ask a cleaning industry professional the Tomorrow’s Cleaning 10 Questions. This month, we chatted to Paul Jakeway, Marketing Director at Deb Group UK.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB? A part time shelf stacker/trolley pusher at a supermarket


that’s no longer in business whilst I was at college. My first full job was as Marketing Assistant at healthcare company SSL International where I worked in global marketing for surgical products.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE CLEANING INDUSTRY? During my time at Newell Rubbermaid, I was responsible


for their professional brands in EMEA, including IRWIN Tools and Rubbermaid Commercial Products and their range of washroom, food storage, cleaning, janitorial and waste management categories.

WHICH THREE WORDS DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY?

F YOU COULD VISIT ONE PLACE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO AND WHY?


To see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) – it would be a breathtaking experience.

Make hand hygiene and skin care a priority for all organisations and their workforce.


IF AN INTERN WERE TO START TOMORROW, WHAT’S THE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD


GIVE THEM? Talk to people – it’s the best way of learning – and keep to deadlines.


IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY TOMORROW, HOW WOULD YOU SPEND YOUR FORTUNE?


Depending on the total of the win, I’d start with taking all my friends and family on holiday for the trip of a lifetime,

then buy a football team (ideally Derby County), make some sound investments and finally buy my own island somewhere tropical.

THEY BE AND WHY? Winston Churchill for the stories he’d tell, Bobby Moore (also for the stories he’d tell), and Jimmy Carr to keep us all entertained.


WHAT, DO YOU THINK, IS THE FUTURE OF THE CLEANING INDUSTRY?


Technological developments will shape the future of the industry for sure. Smart products and services that not only perform efficiently but encourage higher standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

OTHER INDUSTRIES? I believe innovation and technology are crucial to drive forward total systems providers and solution-based companies. To attract talent from other industries, we need people with real experience which will help drive the cleaning sector forward.
