There’s only one thing on everyone’s mind this month. The threat of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) accelerated and became a global pandemic, sending at


least a quarter of the world’s population into protective lockdown. While we have had a couple of deadly outbreaks in the last few decades, it’s the overwhelming scale and spread of this virus that has been truly shocking, taking so many countries by surprise with devastating effect.


During March we learned of many postponements and cancellations as the


industry’s events season was effectively pushed back to the end of the year. The Manchester Cleaning Show was postponed until 15-16 September, while Interclean Amsterdam will now take place on 3-6 November.


As medical and healthcare professionals have been centre stage as they battle


to save lives, and manufacturers struggle to keep up with the need for life-saving PPE, cleaning operatives have been out proving what a key role they have in


keeping essential services functional and hygienic in these unprecedented times. Unsurprisingly, our main feature topic this month is Infection Control &


Prevention. In it, we receive a comprehensive lowdown from the British Institute
