THE CLEANING SHOW REVIEW
There’s No Business Like Show Business
After all the build-up that surrounded the Cleaning Show 2015, I have to admit, I was a little apprehensive as we arrived at London’s Excel Centre – on the banks of the River Thames and just a stone’s throw from the O2 (the Millennium Dome, to those who still remember) and the prestigious Financial District. Could the show possibly live up to its pre-game billing? Will it match my own lofty expectations?
It turns out that I needn’t have worried. As soon as the gates opened and the visitors – a record number of which had pre-registered to come – started pouring in, I knew that we were on to a winner.
Having only actually been a part of this industry for around five months, the Cleaning Show represented my first foray into the big, bad world of trade shows, and it’d be fair to say that I didn’t really know what to expect. I was told beforehand, of course, that I’d be on my feet all day, that come 5 o’clock in the evening I’d be completely knackered, and so on. But having spent my formative years working in a shop, I perhaps naively brushed that off and got firmly stuck in, shaking hands, swapping business cards and generally meeting as many new people as I could.
And while there may be no lasting damage to my feet (it turns out that the advice I was given beforehand was, in fact, pretty bob on), I will be left with a few lasting memories from my trade
Well, the moment we’ve all been waiting for finally arrived last month as the Cleaning Show 2015 opened its doors. The three-day event was a fantastic celebration of our industry, and by all accounts proved to be a big success. Tomorrow’s Cleaning Editor Matt Waring brings you some of the best bits from the show floor.
show debut. The first of which was how great it was to meet with so many different companies, both new and old, and see what they had on offer.
Being introduced to the full Hydro Systems and Disposables UK ranges, as well as live product demos from Green World Innovations and Trafalgar Cleaning Equipment (the demonstration of the Poovac, complete with plastic dog poos, was something to behold) gave me a great opportunity to see some of the products I hear so much about first hand. And the enthusiasm with which everyone waxed lyrical about their products and services only served as an extra reminder of the passionate nature of this industry.
Part and parcel with meeting all these companies came the pleasure of finally being able to meet so many people that I talk to on a semi-regular basis. One of the most important things in any industry, not least our own, is the fostering and developing of relationships, so to be able to put faces to names and actually sit down and chat with some familiar contacts was a real pleasure, and ensured that I’m already looking forward to the next big events in the cleaning calendar.
