…with the recent additions of a reduced swing Volvo ECR235E and the smaller ECR145E for the family-run, Highbridge based, plant hire and earthworks contracting company. THE VOICE went along to find out more.
J D Pope and Sons Ltd has owned and operated a succession of Volvo wheeled and tracked excavators since purchasing their first machine, an EC210B, back in 2001. A year ago, the company ventured into reduced swing territory with the purchase of an ECR145E and, most recently, the larger twenty-five tonne ECR235E for its plant fleet. “We’ve been impressed with the performance of the reduced swing excavators when compared to the conventional machines with the added benefit of being able to work in confined spaces,” says Steve Pope. “A good deal of our work is contracting to the local water authorities, and the

ECR235E, in particular, demonstrates an exceptional lifting capacity and a high degree of stability when handling heavy sewer and man-hole rings.”
J D Pope & Sons was established in 1967 and continues to be a family-owned and managed company with founder John Pope, his sons Steve, Gary and grandson Jason all actively involved in the day-to-day running of the business.
