EDITORIAL LETTER Uncertain times… Hello, and welcome to Edition 38 of THE VOICE magazine – the voice of SMT in Great Britain.
Well, what can I say?! The year started with an exciting line-up of events and lots of activity planned, and then COVID-19 arrived; completely changing everything for all of us. These are unprecedented times, and I hope that you and your families are remaining safe and well during this pandemic.
It may come as no surprise for you to learn that many of our machines play a pivotal role in supporting key industries throughout Great Britain, so I would like to express my thanks to our hard-working engineers who have continued to repair and service the machines that are keeping those industries running.
We recently sold some Approved Used machines that will be used for moving NHS waste. We have also received some urgent requests for machines to go to new homes for companies involved in the production of food that we may no longer be able to import from other countries. We hope to report on some of these positive news stories in the next edition of The Voice.
In terms of new machines, the EC950F is now available in GB. You can read all about this on pages 42–45, and you will have the opportunity to see this machine up-close at Hillhead, which has now been rescheduled to take place in June 2021. Excel Surfacing have also taken delivery of the first P2870D Paver in GB and are finding it to be a very versatile machine.
We have two feature articles in this edition, the first of which explains how Volvo’s thirty-year experience in waste handling is benefitting several customers, which you can read about in pages 14–21. We also report on the legend of ‘Vit Hast’ (White Horse) on pages 24–33.
