Quests are structured for a high degree of flexibility, in


which you — as the educator and guide — can skip the sec- tions that aren’t a priority, or you can dive deep into sections that offer opportunities for enriched teaching or cross-disci- plinary exploration.


Are Quests standards-aligned? Yes, most of the Quests are primarily science-content-fo- cused, so we begin each Quest development process with an assessment of how to best support the Next Generation Science Standards, even if the Quest is state-specific. Doing so provides a common starting point. We then also identify relevant standards primarily in English/Language Arts and History that are supported through the Quest.


Courtney Kimmel is Vice President of the Captain Planet Foundation. She led the design and development of Project Hero. Prior to CPF, she served as Associate Director for Global Programs for Virginia Tech’s Center for Leadership in Global Sustainability, where she developed graduate and professional programs focused on sustainable development. She has a B.A. from St. Mary’s College and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Virginia Tech.
