Pipettes simplify PCR testing at California laboratory

Matrix Diagnostics – a Covid-19 testing lab in California – is relying on Integra Biosciences’ Evolve and Mini 96 pipettes to streamline and accelerate its PCR workflows. Founded in January 2021 to meet the growing demand for testing in the San Francisco Bay Area, Matrix Diagnostics is using the solutions to test up to 5,000 samples a day. Lab Manager Fady Ettnas explained: “We work with schools and workplaces to

Updated LIMS starter systems

Autoscribe Informatics has announced the release of its updated starter systems. As well as ensuring that the starter systems run on the latest Autoscribe Matrix software, improvements have been made to the Chain of Custody (CoC) module, and inventory management and batch manufacturing have been more tightly integrated.

Key Matrix starter systems include:

Matrix Express; General Laboratory; Regulated Pharmaceutical/ Manufacturing; Biobank; Mortuary; and Radiopharmacy. The CoC module is designed to track items in terms of both location and responsibility. For each sample, its location, the person responsible for it and the overall custodian is noted at all times.

Updated multi-slide digital scanner

Hamamatsu Photonics has released an updated version of the NanoZoomer S60, an automated system capable of scanning up to 60 glass slides. The NanoZoomer S60v2MD slide scanner system is the latest addition to the NanoZoomer series of whole slide scanners, which support clinical diagnosis. The latest version not only scans

faster compared to the previous model in 40x mode, but it also offers new features. Three cassette slots

can be used interchangeably for standard and mega-sized slides and it includes selectable fully automated and semi-automated scanning modes. Customers can still expect the convenience of the operational software to help them create scan profiles and perform quality checks on images. The NanoZoomer series is a family of whole slide scanners that convert glass slides into high-resolution digital data by high-speed scanning.

deliver regular PCR testing as a part of their gradual reopening after the pandemic. Our protocols involve a range of repetitive pipetting steps – including mixing reagents and serial dilutions – for thousands of samples a day, which has the potential to be a cumbersome and error-prone task. We therefore chose the Evolve manual pipettes and Mini 96 portable electronic pipettes to improve the reproducibility and productivity of our workflows.”

SWIFT AND SIMPLE SAMPLE PICKING

Ziath has launched the Mohawk 48 tube selector and picker. Designed to select and pick wide, heavy, or tall tubes, this new system is perfect for retrieving individual whole tissue samples from storage. It uses 48 solenoid pins to enable a specific frozen or thawed sample tube to be raised and selected when a 48-position tube rack is presented according to a pick list from Excel or a LIMS. Alternatively specific tubes can be manually selected and picked via the user interface. Individual tubes can be picked from a single rack, or users can create a picklist to select tubes across multiple racks.
