31 Refractometry & Polarimetry

Accurate and user-friendly laboratory refractometer

The Rudolph Research J457 Laboratory Refractometer is the top-of-the-line instrument with three available models/confi gurations. Featuring Rudolph’s Smart Measure™ Technology, it ensures accurate Refractive Index (RI) and BRIX measurements by detecting potential sample issues such as improper cleaning, insuffi cient sample loading, or incorrect calibration. This refractometer is available in different confi gurations, including small footprint, wall mount, and remote-read factory options. It also comes equipped with a digital touch screen and a Dual Temperature Control System that utilises Peltier Technology.

The Rudolph J457 Laboratory Refractometer simplifi es routine measurement tasks with its Load and Go Measurement feature. This feature eliminates the need for button pressing and relies on pre-determined methods for accurate and convenient measurements. The J457 also offers versatile data storage options, including 32mb of on-board memory for stand-alone use or memory sticks for expanded memory and easy data transfer to a PC. Additionally, the J457 can be easily connected to your network or linked to a PC to meet any lab’s needs and compliance requirements.

Seamlessly requalify your polarimeter Since December 2022, new official US pharmacopoeia apply.

The key change is implementation of device qualification (OQ and PQ) – not contained in previous versions.

This includes: Temperature management; Wavelength and bandwidth; Repeatability (% relative standard deviation; RSD); Linearity check. To comply with USP 781, existing polarimeters need to be re-qualified. And that can be time-consuming.

Not with Anton Paar’s comprehensive pharma qualification documents, though. They’re modified for the new requirements, and assure smooth re-qualification of their polarimeters, installed in the regulated environment.

So, if you need to requalify to comply with USP 781, especially if your existing instrument and/or provider aren’t yet equipped to support the process, just switch to the Anton Paar polarimeter. That way, you’ll be ensuring the requalification is absolutely seamless, with minimum cost and hassle – and maximum peace of mind and efficiency.

Polarimeters tackle diffi cult samples in sugar, chemical and pharmaceutical industries

Xylem’s Bellingham + Stanley brand has added further capabilities to its ADP600 Series polarimeters.

Not only is the instrument capable of measuring to four decimal places (°A) under Peltier temperature controlled conditions across the UV/Vis spectrum, a new addition, the ADS620P, is now able to measure dark sugar solutions in the near infrared wavelength (880 nm) when used with Celite® clarifying agent. The use of Celite negates the traditional but environmentally unfriendly lead acetate clarification method commonly used in the sugar industry.

Further enhancements benefit those wishing to operate with harsh chemicals such as hydrochloric acid (HCl) used as a solvent within the pharmaceutical industry. HCl is aggressive to stainless steel tubes meaning standard XPC

tubes can’t be used. New glass tubes with PEEK endcaps are resistant to such solvents and this combined with a new, optional, Hastelloy® encased temperature sensor makes for corrosion free analysis of samples prepared with such harsh substances.

ADP600 Series instruments are available as multiple, dual or single wavelength models, incorporating XPC technology, Xylem’s patented Peltier temperature control system. The combination of precision optics with fast and reliable onboard temperature control, the ADP600 Series of high accuracy polarimeters are well suited to the demanding applications of regulated environments

All ADP600 Series polarimeters feature a touchscreen experience that is intuitive, secure and compliant with a range of international standards including FDA regulation 21 CFR Part 11. ADP600 Series instruments are also compliant with pharmacopeia (BP/EP/USP/JP) as well as several other norms including relevant ASTM and AOAC methods.
