A new generation of Zero OPD laboratory freeze dryers
LyoQuest Arctic is a new generation of environmentally friendly laboratory freeze dryers that operate with natural gases. Designed by Telstar for R+D laboratories, the innovative bench-top laboratory freeze dryer integrates pre-freezing, primary drying and secondary drying processes avoiding the use of conventional HFC or HFO cooling gases.
The new freeze-dryer, which operates with natural gases composed by R-170 (Ethane) & R-290 (Propane), guarantees the long-term compliance with increasingly restrictive International regulations (like F-gas). In fact, since 2015 high GWP (Global Warming Potential) gases are not allowed except for very low temperatures applications below -50ºC.
The global warming potential (GWP) of a gas is a value that measures global warming and, specifically, it measures the warming impact from the emission of one unit of a certain gas when compared to one unit of carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is the reference gas and is thus assigned a value of 1. Natural gases integrated in LyoQuest Arctic provide Zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potencial) besides very a low GWP (under 6) in contrast with higher than 3000 GWP of current HFC’s. Even the new HFOs gases under development to replace them have a GWP higher than 1500.
LyoQuest Arctic combines flexibility with performance into a single unit so that users can carry out complete cycles using different containers (vials, trays, ampoules, and flasks) with the same piece of equipment. In addition to being versatile, it also enables users to create recipes that include time, temperature and vacuum control via its integrated PLC control system. The innovative design of this freeze-dryer results in an extremely compact unit with large condensation capacity of up to 8 litres. The freeze-dryer’s ice condenser includes an automatic defrosting function for quick and easy de-icing. Furthermore, its design enables many product formats to be pre-frozen in the unit, without the need for an additional freezer.

Safe, portable, and trackable cryogenic transport
CO2 incubator with built-in roller
Crafted with precision by Wiggens, the CO2 incubator emerges as essential tool for various experimental pursuits, from cultivating animal cells to hatching and germinating processes. With rapid heating, swift temperature recovery, and precise temperature control, this premium incubator ensures optimal conditions for cell growth and research.
Its innovative design features electric heating wires surrounding the chamber, ensuring uniform heat distribution. With dry-wall insulation, maintenance is minimised while temperature stability is maximised. A base heater maintains water in a tray for humidity control, while a circulation fan ensures even moisture dispersion. Additionally, front door and frame heaters prevent condensation, maintaining clarity for observation.
Partnering seamlessly with the CO2 incubator, the Celrol Elite roller apparatus offers configurations from 5 to 88 bottle positions, facilitating cell attachment culture. This versatile apparatus accommodates standard
plastic bottles, providing scalability and convenience for researchers. The roller culture technique, utilising gentle rotation, enhances gas exchange and promotes cell growth.
Azenta Life Sciences has developed the CryoPod™ Carrier - a lightweight, handheld solution for the secure transport of temperature-sensitive biological samples. Delivering cryogenic protection below -150 °C for over three hours, the CryoPod Carrier offers portability, safety, and temperature traceability across the critical last mile of the cold chain.
Maintaining cold-chain integrity during sample transfers between labs or storage facilities can be a major challenge, particularly for high- value or temperature-critical biomaterials. The CryoPod Carrier addresses this risk by preventing transient warming events that could compromise sample quality or viability.
Weighing under 6 kg, the compact CryoPod Carrier is engineered for short-range sample transport within or between labs. Unlike improvised solutions or dry ice alternatives, it ensures samples remain in a validated cryogenic environment throughout the journey - while monitoring and logging key data such as internal temperature, time, and date.
The CryoPod Carrier integrates seamlessly into laboratory workflows and supports regulatory compliance by storing a full event log that can be downloaded for audit purposes. An onboard display and alarms offer real-time visibility of cryogenic conditions, giving researchers peace of mind that their materials remain protected.
For added convenience and user safety, Azenta also offers an automated filling station. This accessory enables hands-free liquid nitrogen refills in under 15 minutes - reducing exposure and enhancing lab efficiency.
