21 Super Resolution Microscope Systems

The Carl Zeiss ELYRA microscope systems introduce two discrete super resolution techniques to optical microscopy for the first time. Structured Illumination Microscopy (SIM), developed by scientists at the University of San Francisco, and Photoactivated Localization Microscopy (PAL-M) each offer extraordinarily high resolutions that overcome the classical diffraction limit to microscopic resolution. Compared to conventional microscopy, super resolution images have up to double the resolution in all three spatial directions, down to less than 200 nanometers. The ability to resolve to this level within the living cell opens up original experimental possibilities, especially in cell biology and neurological research.

PAL-M technology offers the highest resolution currently available while the outstanding feature of SR-SIM technology is its high level of flexibility in the choice of dye. This means that both super resolution methods minimise previous limitations in dye selection or user-friendliness and that users no longer need to invest in single extremely specialised and expensive systems.

Three microscope systems are being offered. ELYRA S.1 is the first microscope system to offer SR-SIM technology on a standard microscope stand while ELYRA P.1 offers PAL-M technology commercially for the first time. The ELYRA PS.1 offers both technologies in one system and in combination with a laser scanning

microscope, meaning that that an object can be successively imaged with LSM, SR-SIM and PAL-M. The optimal combination for high-end research is offered by ELYRA in conjunction with the LSDM 780 laser scanning microscope. However, PAL-M and SR-SIM may also be combined with the LSM 710 system.

MICROSCOPY Circle no. 575 Automated Fraction Collector

Dionex has released the AFC-3000 Automated Fraction Collector, a reliable and highly flexible fraction collector, ideally suited for preparative reversed-phase or normal-phase HPLC as well as purification of proteins, peptides, and nucleic acids. The AFC-3000 manages analytical and semipreparative to preparative flow rates, and collects fractions into a large variety of commonly used sample formats, including 96-well plates for small volume to bottles for large volume fraction collection. A funnel rack directs virtually unlimited volumes into any bottle or reactor.

The AFC-3000 is compatible with all solvents, buffers, acids, and bases, and can be equipped with an optional grounded drop former for safe operation with normal-phase eluents. The fraction collector supports flow rates up to 150 mL/min, and has the smallest possible carryover due to minimised delay volume between the valve and drop former. An optional kit for improved performance at low flow rates is available. The AFC-3000 is ideally suited for working with the comprehensive Chromeleon®

Automated Titration

Solution for Accurate Results Mettler Toledo’s Liquid Handler is ideal for high-end automatic applications. Suitable for both aqueous and non-aqueous liquids, the 50ml burette, with its flexible and robust design, enables users to dose up to four liquids at a time. In addition each dose can be adjusted dependant on the task, helping to reduce errors – saving users time and money. Compatible with Mettler Toledo sampler changers and Excellence T70 and T90 titrators, this diverse automation application is suitable for several industry segments. Plus thanks to CAN connection and Plug & Play operation, programming of complex liquids is easy thanks to dedicated and comprehensive method functions.

In addition customers can automate their workflow with LabX smartcodes; a new feature of LabX pro titration. Simply label samples with a barcode and LabX will find the corresponding titration method for every sample.

Kimble, Kontes and Chase Scientific have Joined to Become your Global Resource for Scientific Laboratory Glassware

Kimble, Kontes and Chase Scientific have joined to become your global resource for scientific laboratory glassware. Our wide selection of quality labware for chemistry, life sciences, chromatography, environmental science and education are now manufactured in six strategically located facilities in order to bring you the best possible products and services.

Kimble Chase is excited to announce the availability of a new line of laboratory glassware. ValueWare® is designed from ISO and ASTM standards and is characterised by a unique combination of quality and economy. Manufactured from KIMAX® attack. This means optimal performance in the lab at an affordable price.

borosilicate glass 3.3 (KG-33), ValueWare has a low coefficient of expansion and a very high resistance to chemical

The ValueWare line consists of beakers, cylinders, dishes, flasks, funnels, pipettes and tubes. The glassware is engineered for effectiveness and includes the same features as more expensive ware. For instance, our standard beakers have slightly flared tops with spouts specifically designed to have excellent pouring characteristics. They incorporate durable, easy-to-read graduations and marking spots for use with ordinary pencils. Heavy-duty and tall form beakers are also available.

Discover the Value – Kimble Chase Laboratory Glassware

With more than a century’s worth of experience, Kimble Chase is a global manufacturer of reusable, disposable and specialty glassware designed to meet and exceed your lab’s expectations.

In addition to ValueWare, Kimble Chase manufactures an extensive line of scientific laboratory glassware for today’s organic and inorganic labs. Our reusables, disposables and specialty products cover everything from adapters to washers and include distillation assemblies, chemistry kits, NMR tubes, pipettes, safety-coated glassware, vacuum apparatus, chromatography columns and HPLC mobile phase handling systems.

All Kimble Chase products are designed and built for performance. Our goal is to supply quality and value so that our customers can be confident in naming Kimble Chase as their scientific laboratory glassware manufacturer of choice.
