Anachem Celebrates New Ownership in 40th Anniversary Year

Since 1970 Anachem Ltd (Luton, UK) has been supporting scientists in the UK and Ireland with an extensive range of high quality pipetting and laboratory supplies. Now, in its fortieth year, the Company is very proud to announce that it has become part of Mettler Toledo International Inc.

This new ownership will further strengthen Anachem’s leadership in the liquid handling market. The relationship will also bring additional choices in pipetting for Anachem’s customers that were previously inaccessible.

The Anachem and RAININ names have always been closely aligned since Ken Rainin became one of the founder members of Anachem back in 1970. The two Companies have both enjoyed significant growth and

success since then and RAININ itself became part of Mettler Toledo in 2001.

“The acquisition of Anachem will enable us to better serve customers in the UK and Ireland with our full product range, by providing the best local sales and service support,” said Graham Eley, General Manager, Mettler Toledo UK.

Regenerative Medicines

Funding Supports BIGT Goals

The BioIndustry Association (BIA) has welcomed Lord Mandelson’s announcement that the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) will invest £5.3 million over the next five years in a Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Regenerative Medicine at Loughborough University. The centre will also receive £3 million from 28 industrial and government partners. The Bioscience Innovation and Growth Team Review and Refresh of Bioscience 2015, published in January 2009, called for investment in the emerging regenerative medicine industry, which offers the possibility of cures, rather than life-long treatments. The Government’s New Industry New Jobs proposals and the Office for Life Sciences’ Life Sciences Blueprint also recognised that high technology manufacturing, such as that required in the regenerative medicines field, will be crucial to the UK’s economic future. Clive Dix, BIA Chairman, said: “This announcement about investment in regenerative medicine further exhibits the Government’s commitment to ensuring that the cutting edge science coming from the UK’s innovative life sciences sector is turned into the world-leading treatments of the future.”
