Halma

Announces Record Earnings and Strategy for Continued Expansion

Halma p.l.c. has announced record results with profits up 9% to £86m and revenue rising by 1% to £459m. The UK-based group - which includes companies such as Halma Water Management, Palintest, Radio-Tech and Tritech - has posted strong financials to raise shareholder dividends by 7%, the thirty-first consecutive year of increases greater than 5%. The company plans to augment its organic growth efforts through acquisition of complementary technology companies, as it has done for many years.

Halma’s subsidiaries operate in three main

market sectors: Health and Analysis, Infrastructure Sensors, and Industrial Safety, creating shareholder value with consistent organic growth and sound acquisitions. Halma companies operate as independent entities under the day-to-day direction of their local management, while reaping the capital and network benefits of a larger multi-national parent.

The company is seeking successful and profitable

companies that are closely allied to any of its current market sectors, although photonics, water, fluid technology and health optics are a particular focus. It has £100m earmarked for acquisitions.

“In recent months we have increased our acquisition search activity,” said Allan Stamper, Chief Executive of the Water & Asset Monitoring Division. “Our experience has been that vendors of good quality businesses are now keener to talk but that many remain cautious about whether to sell now or to wait, in the hope that markets will recover in the medium term. Our task is to convince them that they will achieve even greater success by being part of Halma and to structure deals accordingly. We continue to search for businesses in all of our existing market sectors and in all geographic regions.”

IFAT CHINA + EPTEE + CWS 2010: A Great Success for the Leading Environmental Technologies in China

This year’s IFAT CHINA + EPTEE + CWS, the first joint trade fair organised by Messe München International (MMI) and Shanghai ZM International Exhibition Co., Ltd., is proud to announce that it welcomed a high number of visitors and exhibitors. The International Trade Fair for Water, Sewage, Refuse and Recycling attracted more than 22,000 trade visitors from 84 countries. The top five international visitor countries and regions were China, Korea, Japan, Germany and Taiwan.

"Due to IFAT CHINA’s strong international profile and the significant position of EPTEE + CWS in China, a joint event has been

created which is without doubt the largest and most important trade fair for environmental technologies in China," said Eugen Egetenmeir, Managing Director of Messe München International.

Jiang Gang, General Manager of Shanghai ZM International Exhibition Co., Ltd. also highlighted the first time’s joining hands: "The successful cooperation of IFAT CHINA and EPTEE & CWS has enabled the trade show to expand in exhibition space, exhibitor

and visitor numbers, and in exhibition quality. It not only integrates the trade show resources, but also provides a broader platform for the industry. We are building jointly the biggest environmental technology trade show in China, and at the same time endeavoring to promote its international influence, especially in Asia. "

At IFAT CHINA + EPTEE + CWS 2010, the demand for exhibition space was very strong, thus the show covered 40,000 sqm. All in all, 839 companies from 26 countries

presented their new products and services at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) from 5 – 7 May. 43 percent of the exhibitors came from abroad. The top five exhibiting countries and regions were China, Germany, Korea, The United States, and Taiwan.

"The large number of Chinese companies that participated in this event underscores the fact that IFAT CHINA + EPTEE + CWS has arrived on the Chinese domestic

environmental-technology scene. The show benefits from the fact that, from the very beginning, the fair’s organizers have made room for presentations that focus on planning and administrative challenges and not just technical solutions" said Dr. Fritz Holzwarth, Deputy Director-General Water Management of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.

Wentang Pan, Chairman of China Environment Chamber of Commerce (CECC), and Vice General Manager of Beijing Capital Co., Ltd. pointed out: "It is a very wise decision

that China Environment Chamber of Commerce joined IFAT CHINA + EPTEE + CWS. We benefit a lot from the well organized and high international trade show. The presence of key chamber members also brings new highlights."

The Chinese Society of Environment Sciences (CSES) held their Annual Conference on the trade fair grounds, attended by 1,500 participants. This conference was opened

by Zhou Jian, Vice Minister of China Environmental Protection Ministry, who also paid a visit to the trade fair. Other politicians, such as Nikolaus Berlakovich, Austrian Federal Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management, and Gilad Erdan, Israeli Minister of Environmental Protection also visited the show with their delegations.

IFAT CHINA + EPTEE + CWS 2010 featured a high profile accompanying program, overall attracting more than 7,000 attendees in around 200 sessions in total. Technical and scientific conferences were organized by the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA), a major international partner of the show.

info@aet-pub.com Water Expo China

Water Expo China 2010, China’s only official show for the water industry sponsored by China’s Ministry of Water Resources, will take place at the National Convention Center in Beijing from 17 – 19 November 2010. The show is organised by Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co Ltd and the Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society (CHES). Last year it attracted 252 exhibitors from 18 countries and regions and 10,239 visitors from 30 countries and regions. An increase in exhibitor and visitor numbers is expected this year at the venue which is Beijing’s newest international conference centre. It is located in the heart of Beijing Olympic Green which houses the Water Cube (National Aquatic Centre) and the National Indoor Stadium.

Mr Jason Cao, General Manager, Messe Frankfurt Shanghai Co Ltd said that Water Expo China is acknowledged within the water industry sector as an effective forum for exhibitors and visitors to meet key decision makers from China and the global water industry.

“Recognising the importance of our show, China’s Zhejiang province is supporting local water companies from the fast growing city of Taizhou with an exhibition subsidy,” he added. “The subsidy is for 300 sqm exhibition space and

it is being arranged by CCPIT Taizhou, a foreign economic trade organisation which has more than 2,000 members who include companies and associations. This is a great honour for us.” More than 70 participants attended a seminar in Japan organised by Messe Frankfurt and the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), a government-related organisation that promotes mutual trade and investment between

Japan and the rest of the world. As a result of the successful seminar, JETRO is expanding their exhibition space at Water Expo China.

Mr Cao said that Japanese companies want to enter the Chinese water market because of its size. The Japanese water market is estimated to be worth between JPY 100 – 200 billion, while China’s market is expected to be worth JPY 12 trillion by 2025. Ms Wen Ma, Energy from Environment Technology Division Industry and Technology Department from Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) said small and medium sized Japanese companies are wanting a connection to

China’s central and regional governments, related organisations and private enterprises. “JETRO plans to create as many business opportunities for Japanese companies at Water Expo China by working together with the sponsors, Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society (CHES) and Messe Frankfurt Shanghai,” she added. “Companies exhibiting in the Japanese Pavilion are confident that they are able to provide the necessary technology, products and know-how to the Chinese.” The China (International) Water Business Summit is China’s most authoritative and professional water event and coincides with the final year of China’s "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" and the first year of the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan".

This year’s theme is Water Quality, Opportunity and Challenge and preliminary topics include water safety, water business investment and financing, non-traditional water use, China water price and the Southwest China Drought

project. The two-day summit is organised by the Department of Water Resources Management, Ministry of Water Resources, PRC, Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society, China Environment Service Industry Association and Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co Ltd.
