Dates Announced for CEM 2011

Fifth Eco Expo Asia to Take Place in November

Dates for the 10th International Conference and Exhibition on Emissions Monitoring have been set for 5th – 7th October 2011.

After successful conferences and exhibitions in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Denmark, France and Italy, we are pleased to invite you to the Czech Republic. Air pollution has never been higher on the agenda of the international community. As legislation and action plans grow in number and stringency, the importance of monitoring and quantifying this pollution in an accurate and transparent manner becomes a priority.

CEM, the International Conference on Emissions Monitoring, has grown in strength and popularity since its inaugural meeting in 1997. CEM 2011 will continue this position as the major international conference and exhibition specifically designed to cover the subject of source emissions monitoring in its entirety.

The conference will consider the latest

developments in measurement techniques, environmental legislation and standardisation relevant to all atmospheric pollutants (including

particulates, SO2, NOx, VOC, trace elements, and greenhouse gases). The main topics are Legislation and

standardization; Analytical methods for particulates and gases; Emission trading schemes and implementation; Diffuse emissions: modeling and measurements; Instruments certification and equivalency; Personnel certification; Quality assurances and validation; and Industrial applications and case studies.

“Business Solutions to Climate Change” will be the theme of Eco Expo Asia 2010, which will take place 3-6 November at AsiaWorld-Expo.

The theme and other highlights of the upcoming fair were introduced at a business luncheon hosted by

Expo organisers the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd on 19 April 2010.

Hong Kong-Guangdong cooperation in environmental protection presented business opportunities The luncheon’s keynote speaker, Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau, introduced the latest

developments in Hong Kong-Guangdong cooperation in the area of environmental protection, and the opportunities they presented to the business sector. Earlier this month in Beijing, Chief Executive Donald Tsang and Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua signed the Framework Agreement on Hong Kong/Guangdong Co-operation. That agreement includes a number of important measures meant to implement a regional ecology and environmental protection regime, to create a high-quality living area in the Greater Pearl River Delta region.

“The business sector has a key role to play in the region’s pursuit of a green agenda as a solution

provider. Eco Expo Asia provides an ideal platform for business-to-business and business-to-government dialogue on how their partnerships could be strengthened to tackle the challenges posed by climate change and, at the same time, harness the opportunities,” said Mr Yau.

C40 Workshop on “Low-Carbon Cities for High-Quality Living” would be held concurrently HKTDC Deputy Executive Director Benjamin Chau told the luncheon guests that a C40 Workshop –

“Low-Carbon Cities for High-Quality Living” – would be held concurrently with the fifth edition of Eco Expo Asia. The C40 Climate Leadership Group encompasses some of the world’s leading cities committed to tackling climate change.

The two events, said Mr Chau, would bring together government officials and environmental experts

from Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and around the world to share their insights on low carbon living. Those insights bring with them enormous business opportunities – particularly on the Chinese mainland. “But more than business,” he added, “they offer solutions to the complex environmental issues that confront us all.”

This year’s event spotlights green building and electric vehicles. Exhibitors will focus on air quality,

energy efficiency and energy, waste management & recycling and eco-friendly products. The Eco Asia Conference will once again be held alongside the fair.

Last year, 200 exhibitors from 19 countries and regions – up more than 60 per cent over the previous

year – attended the fourth edition of Eco Expo Asia. Ten national and regional pavilions were featured. The environmental fair also attracted some 10,000 trade visitors from 105 countries and regions,

including more than 140 officials from the Chinese mainland. Reply Card no 8 Reply Card no 9

Malvern Instruments Extends Direct Operations in Japan

Malvern Instruments (UK) is extending its direct operations in Japan and has concluded an agreement with Sysmex Corporation, the current distributor of its laboratory-based particle characterization systems, to transfer responsibility for sales and support to Malvern Instruments Japan. Malvern Instruments Japan, which is based in Kobe, was established in February 2003 to manage Malvern’s process business in the region. From 1st October 2010 an expanded organisation will provide sales, technical and applications support across the entire range of Malvern’s particle characterisation systems.

“I’d like to pay tribute and extend my

sincere thanks to the whole team at Sysmex, who have provided incredibly loyal support to Malvern and our products for more than a decade,” said Paul Walker, Managing Director of Malvern Instruments. “In recent years our business has grown substantially and our product and technology portfolios have undergone considerable diversification. As the market in Japan continues to mature, it makes sound business sense for us to further extend our direct operation and to manage our particle characterization business through a single organization, as we do elsewhere.”

Hisashi Ietsugu, President and CEO of

Sysmex Corporation, is looking forward to a continuing collaboration with Malvern in the bioscience arena. “Sysmex and Malvern have enjoyed more than ten years of fruitful business collaboration, a period in which there have been considerable developments in the market,” he said.
