Health & Safety New Dosimeter Dedicated to the Measurement of Noise Exposure

Many workers are exposed daily to occupational noise. Extended exposure of individuals to intense noise levels generates hearing loss and important deafness troubles. In order to monitor the health of individuals exposed to noise as part of their professional activity, 01dB-Metravib (France) has designed the Wed007 sound dosimeter / exposure meter.

Based on an innovating technical solution associated with processing software dBLexd, dosimeter / exposure meter Wed007 fully meets the requirements of European directive 2003/10/EC (regulation relative to the protection of workers against noise exposure). 01dB-Metravib offers a multiple-point metrological approach to assess daily noise exposure. This approach relies on the deployment in the workshop of a set of ‘blind’ dosimeters with wireless (Bluetooth) communication with a Pocket PC. This easy-to-use device is an invaluable tool for the user wishing to implement new regulations on the field.

The Pocket PC is the actual computer-human interface connecting the user with the instruments. It is used to define the measurement configuration of each instrument, to collect acquired data and for the real-time visual display of measured data on its colour screen. For easy field operating, common measurement configurations compliant with current regulations have been pre-programmed in each instrument. The user just has to select the measurement starting date and can thus focus on what matters.

Detector now Ideal for Water and Wastewater Applications Crowcon (UK) has expanded the capabilities of its highly successful Tetra:3 (T3) personal multi-gas detector with

three more toxic gas sensors: ozone (O3), sulphur dioxide (SO2) and ammonia (NH3). This complements the existing sensor range which includes flammable gases, oxygen (O2), hydrogen sulphide (H2S), and carbon monoxide (CO). The new sensors widen the scope of the T3 to include water and wastewater applications.

Featuring a top-mount display and the capacity to detect up to four gases at once, the T3 is designed for use in the most demanding industrial environments, including confined space work. It features intuitive, single button operation, essential for users with gloved hands. If a hazard is detected, the T3 gives rapid and effective warning with a powerful 95 dBA audible alarm, an extremely bright red/blue LED visual warning, and by vibrating. Despite its compact size and low weight (less than 300g), the T3 is very rugged. It has a shatterproof housing with rubber over- moulding, providing extra shock and vibration protection and giving it water and dust resistance to IP67.

Ideal for use in water supply, waste water and waste industry applications, the Draeger Safety (Germany) range features a wide variety of fixed gas detection systems, transmitters and sensors for use with oxygen, toxic and flammable gases. Combining cost savings with fast, safe and reliable detection of hydrogen sulphide, methane and oxygen depletion, the range also features long life sensors which increase calibration intervals to one year.

Ensuring the reliable detection of combustible gases and vapours, the Draeger PIR 3000 is a smart, explosion proof, infra-red (IR) gas transmitter. ATEX approved and designed to provide failsafe operation in any potentially explosive environment, it can be used in oxygen depleted atmospheres and is

immune to poisons such as H2S. Lower in cost than traditional pellistor or catalytic bead detectors, IR technology is also more robust and stable. In addition, the increased accuracy of IR means that maintenance costs can be significantly reduced with traditional six- monthly calibration intervals being extended to one year. Together with an overall life expectancy of more than 15 years, this means that the PIR 3000 is able to dramatically reduce lifetime ownership costs.

The low cost, explosion proof Draeger Sensor IR has been specifically developed to allow existing pellistor or catalytic bead detectors of hydrocarbons to be replaced easily and quickly with an infra red detector. This innovative sensor mimics the behaviour of the pellistor it has replaced. This means that users of pellistor or catalytic bead detectors from the majority of manufacturers can upgrade to the increased reliability, operating life and reduced maintenance costs offered by superior infra red technology.

The Draeger range also includes the Polytron 3000 and Polytron 7000 range of intelligent transmitters, together with the patented Draeger Sensor for toxic gases and oxygen. Sensors are pre-calibrated and are plug-and-play. Simply plug in the sensor and the detector is ready to use with no further intervention from the operator. Replacing a sensor is equally easy and, because of their large size and accuracy, the sensors offer a very long life, with calibration intervals of one year to further enhance the cost reducing benefits.

A lithium-ion battery provides over 18 hours continuous operation from a single charge, and there is a 30 day countdown warning of the calibration due date. The T3 is provided with a stainless steel alligator pocket clip as standard and has an optional harness for chest mounting. To coincide with the expanded T3 gas sensor range, Crowcon has also launched a new 'universal charger', developed in response to the market need for reliable vehicle charging of detectors used by service and maintenance crews in the field. This latest addition firmly supports the T3 in a mountable cradle, offering a quick and easy storage solution as well as dependable charging with status indication.

Detcon's state-of-the-art Model 700 gas detection sensors now include wireless technology as an integration option. All 700 sensors are equipped with standard 4-20mA analog and Modbus RS-485 outputs. The Model RXT-300, Detcon wireless gas detection system, is designed to work with 700 sensors and other Field devices with an RS-485 Modbus serial output. The RXT- 300 is a wireless Modbus replacement and links one master to one or more slaves. Additional communication solutions for the Model 700 include HART, Foundation fieldbus, Profibus, and a recently mechanically repackaged Remote Sensor/Alarm Relay Module.
