2 Alphasense enhances customer experience with new investments
Alphasense has recently invested in its customer services team, internal processes and supporting systems as part of several changes across the business. Since its acquisition by AMETEK in December 2021 and its subsequent designation as AMETEK MOCON’s ‘Global Gas Safety and Air Quality Sensor Centre of Excellence ’, Alphasense has restructured its management team, welcomed a number of experienced new employees and seen a renewed investment in research and development which will deliver a number of new product introductions in 2023.
In the area of customer services, Alphasense has more than doubled the number of employees dedicated to customers and expanded its customer- facing capabilities to support continued growth and increased demand for its products.
The company is also in the process of replacing its legacy systems with a new paperless Enterprise Resource Planning suite which will enable Alphasense to reduce waste, be more environmentally friendly and improve overall efficiency.
In merging inside sales, administration and order entry into a single customer service team comprising a combination of new starters and experienced Alphasense employees, there is a renewed and shared focus on the customer. The front-line team at Alphasense is now well-placed to deal with customer enquiries quickly and effectively and to support the work of its Regional Sales Directors who operate externally.
Will Parrett, Sales & Marketing Director EMEA, said: “In streamlining our systems and processes, we have become more efficient, more customer focused and more transparent. We have made many improvements during the year which have already had a positive impact on our customers, and we continue to strive to do more.
“As we start the year, we are confident our customers are receiving better service than they were six months ago and certainly if you look back 12 months. The implementation of a new ERP system and the introduction of some genuinely innovative new products in 2023 present customers with a wider product range to choose from, and a smoother, better-informed buying experience.

Kunak awarded for its work in air quality monitoring in seaports ), volatile organic
On 12 October, the air quality monitoring project developed by Kunak for Ports de Balears (APB), the port authority of the Balearic Islands, was distinguished as “Best air quality network monitoring award” at the Air Quality & Emissions Show (AQE) in Telford (United Kingdom).
Sea, river and lake ports are infrastructures that enable the traffic of goods on which the global economy is based. But, on occasions, their activity generates polluting emissions into the atmosphere from ships or cruises, loading and unloading operations, the port’s own machinery or the internal traffic of vehicles.
The first step in minimising the nuisance caused by the gases and particulate matter released is to monitor air quality levels in real-time and on a continuous basis. In this way, specific episodes linked to certain operations can be identified and corrective measures can be adopted, safeguarding the well-being of the personnel working in the facilities and the population closest to the port area.
Following on from the successes of the co-located WWEM (Water, Wastewater and Environmental Monitoring exhibition) and AQE (The Air Quality and Emissions Monitoring) events we are excited to announce that we are now locating these shows to the NEC.
Marcus Pattison, Managing Director, International Labmate said: “With increased environmental regulation, pressure on industry to meet targets, public awareness and concern for the air we breathe the water we drink we have seen both an increase in visitor and exhibitor numbers of people and companies who wish to tackle climate change and thus have now out grown our current venue. The move to the NEC will allow us further expansion and better accessibility for local and international visitors to these two leading industry events.”
Richard Mann, New Business Director, NEC Group said: “We’re excited to welcome these exhibitions to the NEC, bringing access to a larger audience through our on-site airport, train station and our location in the heart of the motorway network. The exhibitions are a core component of their industry and our connectivity as the National Exhibition Centre will allow them to grow and expand.”
International Labmate are the publishers of environmental, laboratory and energy media. The organisation has seen the growth and expansion of these co-located events and looks forward to welcoming visitors to the NEC on the 9th & 10th October 2024.

Thus, more and more ports are opting for the measurement of pollution levels in their facilities, with Ports de Balears being one of the pioneering port authorities in this area.
Since 2019, the ports of Palma, Alcúdia, Eivissa, La Savina and Maó have had Kunak air quality monitoring stations, forming a monitoring network that currently includes 25 devices. These stations monitor sulphur dioxide (SO2
), nitrogen oxide (NOx ), carbon monoxide (CO), ozone (O3
compounds (VOCs), suspended particles (PM10
, PM4 , PM2.5 , PM1
and total particles) and noise, as well as meteorological variables such as wind speed and direction and rainfall.
This project was recognised last October as the “Best air quality network monitoring award” at the Air Quality & Emissions Show (AQE) in Telford, UK, where Kunak presented its solutions for measuring air quality and industrial emissions.
It is an award that inspires Kunak to keep moving forward and working to reach new heights of excellence in its products and services.
Kunak’s maxim, which has now become their hallmark, is to achieve the highest reliability and accuracy in the data collected by the Kunak AIR stations deployed on five continents, thus providing accurate information to address the problem of air pollution.

email: InfraTec celebrates topping-out ceremony at headquarters in Dresden
The current investment project of the Dresden-based company InfraTec GmbH Infrarotsensorik und Messtechnik has taken shape in the past year 2022 given challenging general conditions. The shell for the second InfraTec complex at the Gostritzer Straße site was completed. On this occasion, InfraTec staff and management celebrated a traditional topping-out ceremony on 16 December 2022, along with planners, supporters and the building trades on site. In its 31-year history, the Dresden-based company has invested 20 million euros in this expansion, making it the largest construction project to date and a clear commitment to the company’s headquarters and production site in Dresden.
Already in 2018 – after 25 years of residence – InfraTec acquired its own property at the south location of the TechnologieZentrumDresden. By the end of 2020, this was significantly expanded with the construction of a new clean room and office wing for the Sensor Technology business unit.
The new complex has a total area of 2,700 m² and will provide spacious production and development areas for infrared cameras and pyroelectric detectors, as well as generously designed office space and social rooms. Fitted with specially developed, highly flexible technology- specific manufacturing equipment, such as automated calibration stands and systems for growing and processing pyroelectric crystals, the new building paves the way for an optimised manufacturing structure and higher production capacities. This is the basis for being able to meet the increasing demand for InfraTec products in the future, of which almost 70% are exported worldwide.
Right from the start, the planning of the extension complex focused on the goal of constructing an energy-efficient building according to the KfW55 standard. Supported by certified energy efficiency experts, numerous measures were planned to improve the energy balance of the company building: These would include, for example, triple-glazed windows, increased thermal insulation of the roof and façade, and a photovoltaic system with an output of 100 kWp to supply the clean room with green electricity.
Following the start of construction in November 2021, the entire extension complex is scheduled for completion in October 2023. For More Info, email:
