10 Gas Detection New Precise, Easy-to-Use and Versatile Gas Detector from IGD
IGD are happy to announce to Envirotech readers the offi cial release of the 903-X5. Featuring dual gas sensing capabilities with any mix of plug-replaceable sensors from a range of 400 gases, including IGD’s long life PID and poison resistant MK8 Pellistor. This detector meets any gas detection needs and is available with servicing, training and installation straight from IGD.
Clients can use this device as a standalone gas transmitter or can integrate it onto any existing IGD 2-Wire addressable or 4-20mA analogue system, thereby maximising its capabilities and providing advanced gas detection to any existing or new system.
What’s more, the 903-X5 takes the hassle out of calibration and device navigation. This device features digital displays for gas concentration, alarm and fault status as well as one man calibration straight from the detector head, thus, reducing downtime in training whilst simplifying the task of device checks and updates. The 903-X5 is designed for use in ATEX rated environments, enabling quick and easy, one-man, non-intrusive calibration in zone 1, 2, 21 and 22 environments. A datasheet is available via the IGD website.

) and carbon monoxide (CO) levels. Operators can choose up to fi ve gases to monitor. The device features easy self-installation and maintenance, and QED provides a temporary replacement unit during service, resulting in zero operational downtime for servicing. The BIOGAS 3000 system offers simple user calibration and an easy-to-operate system. The system is calibrated to ISO/IEC 17025 standards for optimum accuracy.
The new BIOGAS 3000 fi xed gas analyser can use up to four sample ports to monitor methane (CH4 carbon dioxide (CO2 (H2
) and oxygen (O2 ), with optional monitoring of hydrogen sulphide (H2
The BIOGAS 3000 fi xed gas analyser is available with a continuous monitoring option for CH4 O2
, and by incorporating external H2 , CO2 S sensors in ranges from 50ppm to 10,000ppm, it can be used
to monitor before and after desulphurisation. In addition, pre-calibrated sensors that prevent system downtime are available to users as required. A built-in liquid level monitoring with dedicated alarm and moisture removal drain or the option for an automatic drain which empties the catch pot without manual intervention, offers fl exibility for on-site maintenance.
Built with an IP65-rated enclosure, the BIOGAS 3000 system is certifi ed for use in potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX) and IECEx (IEC System for Certifi cation to Standards Relating to Equipment for Use in Explosive Atmospheres) Zone 2 areas. Various communication options are available to your SCADA system, including six confi gurable 4-20mA outputs with a Modbus RTU communication protocol. In addition, process Field Bus (PROFIBUS) and Process Field Net (PROFINET) and Ethernet communication protocols are also offered.

COMMON HEALTH AND SAFETY RISKS FOR INDUSTRY WORKERS
Workers in the water industry perform many types of activities to meet requirements across various worksites. They may be required to supervise wastewater plants, monitor fl ow meters, or check water quality at remote pumping stations or reservoirs. These tasks have inevitable risks: high voltage materials, hazardous or contaminated water, poisonous chemicals, and toxic or explosive gases. Even traffi c can be a concern, with job sites close to fast-moving vehicles prone to higher workplace risks. Working in confi ned spaces such as sewers, pipelines, storage tanks or access tunnels is common. These environments create the risk of oxygen defi ciency, extreme temperatures or exposure to elevated levels of hydrogen sulphide (H2 facilities, like chlorine (Cl2
) and ammonia (NH3 THESE RISKS INTENSIFY IN THE CASE OF REMOTE OR LONE WORKERS.
Add it all up and you need a versatile and scalable solution for protection against all the risks your industry workers face, while ensuring you have the quickest way to reach them should the worst occur. That’s where connected technology can help. THE BEST DATA FOR THE BEST RESPONSE
Real-time data to support a precise, robust and informed response is powerful. With cloud-connected real-time data, safety managers can have continuous situational awareness. That means being able to see the state of workers and monitoring their safety in the fi eld at all times. It means getting gas exposure alerts, person-down alarms, and manual safety triggers so you can act swiftly. Pair it with professional, live 24/7 monitoring and you’re equipped with quick response capabilities to protect your people.

In line with other industries around the world, the water and wastewater sector is evolving beyond a compliance-only approach to safety. Holistic technology solutions that support a more connected, digitised and data-driven operational programme are fast becoming the standard. Not only are they proven to reduce response time to incidents, but connected workers have been shown to increase productivity by 8% and reduce operational spend by 8.5% (Visual Capitalist, 2021).
