Gas Detection 9 New two channel digital detector with digital interface – for easy integration and precise measurements

Analogue pyroelectric detectors from InfraTec have been used in a number of different customer applications for over 30 years. These have now been joined by a new range of digital pyroelectric detectors called PyrIQ. Alongside the 4-channel detector, InfraTec has also developed the LID-2322: a compensated 2-channel detector in the TO39 housing which is primarily intended for gas analysis devices.

The two-channel LID-2322 is ideal for mobile devices thanks to its small and compact housing and can also run on batteries. It is suitable for use in different applications, e.g. harsh environments, as the optional thermal compensation reduces the effect of external fl uctuations. The integrated I²C communication interface with up to 1 MHz enables the measured values to be read out immediately via a PC or microcontroller in a reliable, standardised manner. Apart from the power supply connections, only two additional connections are required for operation of the detector to allow it to be parameterised and read out. This keeps the external hardware requirements to a minimum and makes it much easier to integrate the detector into the application. Using the additional clock input makes it possible to synchronise the radiator and the detector clock, allowing highly precise signal evaluation with a stable frequency.

Like all detectors from InfraTec, the digital detector is based on lithium tantalate (LiTaO3) as sensor material. In contrast to other materials, LiTaO3 offers a good signal-to-noise ratio and high sensitivity without additional cooling or temperature stabilisation. All of the internal signal processing is carried out by an ASIC (application-specifi c integrated circuit). The signal generated by the pyroelectric elements is amplifi ed in this circuit and then digitised with a

16-bit A/D converter. In contrast to analogue detectors, this allows the detector parameters to be fl exibly confi gured in order to optimise the signal processing. The spatial concentration and shielding of the entire signal conversion of the detector offer improved electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Another special feature is the “fast recovery after saturation” function. This function detects the override due to a defective operating status or external override and automatically resets the analogue input stage within a few milliseconds. This signifi cantly reduces the time it takes for a measuring system to be ready for use again after starting or after temperature changes.

All in all, the LID-2322 offers excellent fl exibility and functionality combined with easy system integration in the standard TO39 housing. For More Info, email:

NET IRNET-PRO - the sensor for industrial CO2 and hydrocarbon monitoring

IRNET PRO is N.E.T. bestselling IR sensor. Available in both 20mm and 32mm diameter version, our comprehensive range of sensors is currently trusted by worldwide users in multiple application scenarios. From critical, life-saving functions, to process-optimization. From environmental quality control to property protection. From aggressive, corrosive environments to clean rooms and hospitals. From freezing, sub-zero conditions to the intense heat of production plants.

All N.E.T. infrared sensors run on a microprocessor-based platform for internal signal processing, providing a linearized and temperature compensated output in digital and analogue format – the ideal solution for instrument manufacturers, even without specialist knowledge in IR technology.

In 2011 DD Scientifi c had a site comprising of a single building, offering sensors for only six gas types and two package sizes, with a team who would be outnumbered on a football pitch.

Since DD-Scientifi c started their journey much has changed, the world has more or less reached an accord on tackling climate change, Neptune completed its fi rst full rotation of the sun since discovery, the fi rst photo of the black hole was taken and Game of Thrones started and fi nished. Fast forwarding to 2022, the site now comprises four buildings occupying an area the size of two football pitches and DD-Scientifi c now offer an impressive portfolio of package sizes and gases. The team has expanded by a factor of ten, including several apprentices.

Another great achievement was DD Scientifi c’s Queen’s award for export excellence. The company’s founding goal was and continues to be to deliver sensors of high quality and consistent performance at competitive prices to the marketplace. They have achieved this by investing in new technologies and manufacturing equipment, and designing sensors from the start to be as simple as possible to manufacture whilst not sacrifi cing performance.

DD-Scientifi c are focused on developing and maintaining deep collaborative client relationships, working with their customers to fi nd solutions and sensors they need for their products irrespective of the size of the project.

The young team at DD-Scientifi c are backed by key personnel with over 250+ years of experience between them in gas sensors and gas detection instrumentation. With the team having a rich experience of sensor, instrumentation and gas detection applications, DD Scientifi c fully understand their end-users’ needs and requirements in both performance, delivery, and pricing to keep them at the forefront of gas detection technology.

or for hydrocarbon gases such as propane and methane in LEL range. The 20mm version detects CO2

The 32mm version features a longer optical path, providing better resolution, stability, humidity drift and cross sensitivity, resulting in overall stronger specifi cations when compared to smaller 20mm versions. The smaller the detection range, the more 32mm sensor performances stand out. IRNET-P 32mm superior performances, reliability and versatility makes it the best solution available for integration in a fi xed gas detector for CO2

or hydrocarbon gases such as propane and methane in LEL range. The 0-100%Vol range version features N.E.T.

DYNAMIC technology for the highest sensing accuracy ever seen in a compact sensor. DYNAMIC sensors also provide an optional digital output for Propane detection over 0-2.1%Vol range – the best option to detect different hydrocarbons using a cross-reference factor. The 20mm version is also available with ATEX and IECEx certifi cations.

All N.E.T. Infrared sensors have reached a safety integrity level of SIL2, as certifi ed by the Functional Safety Assessment released by TUV Nord with Registration No. 17 16483. No other gas sensor on the market is provided with a higher, certifi ed SIL capability, making our IR series the ideal choice for whoever is designing gas detection systems and SIL-rated functions aiming at the highest levels of functional safety.
