Fascination Spectrophotometer NANOCOLOR® UV/VIS and VIS with Integrated Turbidity Control

In the wake of consistent efforts to develop and improve MACHEREY-NAGEL (Germany) spectrophotometers, they have added a new feature – the NTU- Check function – to provide additional customer benefits. From now on, turbidity can be determined automatically and simultaneously when measuring NANOCOLOR® tube tests, thus providing maximum measurement safety when running MACHEREY-NAGEL tube tests.

In photometric analysis, turbidity as a source of error is often underestimated. Turbidity is caused by particles that are already within the water sample, or are formed during an analytical reaction. In both cases, the resulting turbidity impacts the measurement value while visual detection may be tricky.

Experience shows, that even low turbidity values that cannot be detected with the human eye, may significantly interfere with analytical results.

MACHEREY-NAGEL offers the perfect solution for the turbidity problem. To provide customers with maximum measurement and result safety, they have integrated an automatic nephelometric turbidity control into NANOCOLOR® spectrophotometers when running tube tests. As a world-wide unique feature, the instrument performs an automatic and simultaneous turbidity control, e.g. during COD measurements. The result is displayed according to DIN ISO 7027 directly in NTU right next to the actual result. If the turbidity is too high, the instrument warns the user about potential interferences.

MACHEREY-NAGEL microprocessor-controlled spectrophotometers with monochromator (UV/VIS 190-1100 nm; VIS 340-1100 nm) feature broad wavelength spectra and come with powerful, free of charge software, thus allowing flexible use in various industrial and analytical applications. Preprogrammed NANOCOLOR® analysis methods and freely programmable individual applications make the instruments high performance spectrophotometers for routine and reference analytics as well as for highly specific and individual needs.

High quality optical components paired with quick and precise wavelength adjustment guarantee exact results. The optics of the spectrophotometers is insensitive to the influence of external light. Round (16 mm) and rectangular (10, 20, 50 mm) cuvettes can be inserted and measured in the open cuvette slot without light shield or the need for an adaptor. The self- explanatory menus, a colored, backlit touch screen as well as the multi-lingual user guidance ensure an easy and user-friendly operation of the instrument.

The spectrophotometers include the process characteristics of all NANOCOLOR® analysis methods. The NANOCOLOR® Barcode Technology (NBT) uses fully automatic test tube detection to simplify measurements and to minimise the risk of errors.

In addition to pre-programmed tests and basic photometric functions, the instruments can also perform turbidity measurements according to DIN standards, colour measurements and special brewery analytics. Enzymatic measurements are also possible. Furthermore, 100 additional user-defined methods can be programmed into the instrument for universal use and customer specific applications. The high performance optics generates high precision scans in just a few seconds. The photometer also features 3 USB-ports as well as a RS 232 interface for quick and free of charge updates via PC / internet and easy data transfer. Saved measurement data can be exported with the NANOCOLOR® VIS – Software or a USB stick to a computer as to document and manage your data conforming to GLP. On the computer, the data can be saved, edited and administered using standard PC software as well.

Together with the PC software, the spectrophotometers meet all requirements for internal quality control. Within the photometer, standard measurements can be highlighted and saved together with all relevant information, such as LOT number, test / standard used, reference value and tolerance. The photometer also features an “Admin mode”, in which each user is assigned with a specific user-name and password. Every user as well as every test has a measurement and day counter. Depending on the individual settings, for every day measurement, the counters are adjusted. Upon reaching a certain threshold value, which can be defined by the administrator, the photometer asks to perform a standard measurement. The PC – software for NANOCOLOR® spectrophotometer is able to read the memory of the photometer and to display the data in a table. All standard measurements are automatically displayed together in one document. The PC software can thus create printable quality control documents in a fully automatic way. The documents are ideal for your records in case of audits by regulatory bodies.

The NANOCOLOR® spectrophotometers are suitable for universal use in all areas of water and waste water analysis. Relevant industries are for example industrial waste water, drinking water, process water, surface water, ground water as well as cooling or boiler feed water. The NANOCOLOR® spectrophotometers are also ideal for quality control in various industry segments such as food or beverage industry.
