Gas Detection 29 Integrated Fire and Gas – A Flexible Solution to Meet Customer Needs
Fire and gas detection integration calls for much more than a number of standard systems simply put together. High end integrated systems, such as those designed and installed by Dräger (Germany) throughout industry as well as offshore, are designed and installed by experienced, knowledgeable engineers as part of a complete bespoke solution.
In fact, a reliable, integrated approach to life safety and asset protection is the focus of every Dräger system. Using leading edge technology products that meet ATEX and other legislative requirements, each system is designed to take advantage of the latest technology whilst reducing false alarms, improving cost effectiveness and delivering a working system that has the capacity for future expansion.
By using innovative products such as the Dräger PIR 7000 with its extensive gas library, and the Dräger Flame 5000, a colour imaging based CCTV flame detector which provides visual confirmation of the fire, Dräger is able to speed up customer response, saving time, money and, more importantly, lives. These systems can be integrated with other essential equipment to extinguish a fire or provide a safe, orderly evacuation, whatever the application demands.

Gas Leak Detector Systems Now Included on the ECA Energy Technology List
The complete range of refrigerant leak detection systems manufactured by Murco (Ireland) meet the relevant energy saving criteria and has now been approved by the Enhanced Capital
Allowance scheme (ECA) for inclusion on the UK’s Energy Technology List. The ECA Scheme provides a cash boost to UK businesses by offering tax incentives to companies who invest in energy saving equipment. Speaking after the announcement, Murco’s Technical Sales Manager Don Hoban said “We are delighted that UK customers who buy our top quality leak detection products may now be entitled to a full return on their investment in year one.” Any leaks from a refrigerant system can reduce performance, increase costs and damage the environment.
Murco’s MGD, IAM, MGS and ST-IAM range of fixed refrigerant leak detectors constantly monitor the atmosphere and trigger an alarm if they detect any gas escaping from a system and all products have
achieved ECA approval for the detection of CFC, HCFC, HFC, HC and Carbon Dioxide (CO2). Murco gas sensors enable compliance with all important standards such as the EN378, the F-Gas Directive (842/2006) and ASHRAE Standard 15.
Murco is one of only a few manufacturers to achieve ECA approval in the ‘Automated Permanent Refrigerant Leak Detection’ section which also includes its US parent company, Bacharach Inc. “This important industry approval shows Murco’s commitment to refrigeration gas detection and its drive towards zero refrigeration leaks. It is another step in preserving the competitive edge that Murco strives to achieve for its customers.” Don Hoban said.
Enhanced capital allowances - Benefits for Business tax relief for investments in equipment that meets published energy-saving criteria.
The benefits include; Accelerated tax relief - 100% tax relief against taxable profits in year of purchase, Reduced running costs and increased efficiency, Lower energy bills, Reduced Climate Change Levy payments (if applicable), Reduced payback period on purchases, Reduces carbon footprint and Provides certainty that the chosen product should perform well.

New Portable FTIR Gas Analyser Detects Almost Any Gas
Gasmet Technologies Oy (Finland) has announced the launch of the DX4040 – a portable FTIR gas analyser that enables the field measurement of literally thousands of gases.
The DX4040 is the second generation of the world’s first truly portable
FTIR analyser which brought laboratory grade gas analysis into the field, and thereby brought the benefits of multiparameter FTIR gas analysis to monitoring applications involving industrial safety, medical gases, fumigants/pesticides, soil gas, contaminated land, first responders/hazmat, fire investigation, toxic industrial chemicals, chemical warfare agents and many others.
The new instrument is easier to use and more flexible than its predecessor. However, Gasmet CEO Mikko Suuntala says: "The most important development lies in the ability of the device to identify unknown gases in the field (at the touch of one button) when using a new version of the unit's Calcmet software on a Windows tablet pc."
Users of the DX4040's predecessor will be pleased to learn that the unknown gas identification capability is retrospectively applicable to existing DX4030 analysers when using the new software and a tablet PC.
The Calcmet Pro software makes it possible to retrospectively identify almost any gas from the recorded spectra. However, for those users investigating known species the unit can be used with a handheld Bluetooth PDA running Calcmet Lite and incorporating a 3G modem, camera and GPS so that time and location are assigned to each analysis. Using the DX4040 with a PDA is a popular choice because it enables the simultaneous display, in almost real-time, of up to 25 gases.
Summarising the benefits of the DX4040 Mikko Suuntala says: “This instrument is unique; it is able to identify both organic and inorganic compounds, whilst also storing sample spectra for post- measurement analysis using a chemical library of over 5000 compounds. There are no sensors that might need future replacement and operation is extremely easy; no sample preparation is required and calibration is simply a zero check with nitrogen or air.”

A Step Change in NDIR Carbon Dioxide Sensor Performance
With applications ranging from Building Controls to Diving Equipment, COZIR Carbon Dioxide sensors’ combination of extremely low power consumption (3.5mW) and instantaneous warm-up (1.2 secs) answers
directly to the growing demand for CO2 sensors which can be integrated into battery or self powered wireless systems.
The ground breaking NDIR sensor technology from Gas Sensing Solutions Ltd (UK) can be operated with battery (3.3V) or photo voltaic, allowing economical real time monitoring of CO2 concentration levels.
COZIR sensors are provided in two ranges: Ambient range from 0-1% and Wide range from 0-100%. Additional options include temperature and humidity output.
