We can help with disability benefits


TENANTS who are claiming disability benefits could be in line for an increase in their money. If you think you, or someone


you know, might be affected, get in touch with us. There are certain criteria to claim the extra income, but we can help you find out if it applies to you.


It might also be that you or somebody you know has had their disability benefits reduced or stopped. We can help you challenge this and get your money back. If you’re already receiving disability benefits such as Attendance Allowance or Personal Independence Payment, then you might be able to get the extra cash. Talk to your housing officer to


make an appointment with one of our welfare benefits advisors. Remember, there are lots


of ways we can help if you’re struggling. We can help you with managing your money, cutting your fuel bills, getting furniture for your home, help into jobs and training, and lots more. Just talk to your housing officer or give us a call.

Better housing advice T


HANK you to everyone who responded to our consultation on how we let our homes.


Many of you gave us helpful feedback


after we shared our proposals recently for how we plan to improve the way we offer people housing advice and let our available homes. Our Board will look carefully at all the


responses before finalising our new Advice, Information and Letting Policy. The aim of the policy is to make the


way we let our homes fair and clear while ensuring people in greatest need are given priority for a home. We also want people to get honest, personalised advice about their chances of getting a home and, if they don’t have priority for social housing, help with housing options suitable to their needs and circumstances. The draft policy was drawn up based on what tenants and those applying for a home have already told us. We also took into account wider changes such as welfare reform and a number of legal changes which are due to come into force soon.


Once the policy is finalised, it will help shape our new housing advice and letting service called My Housing which

we hope to launch next year. If you are looking for housing in West


Lothian, our My Housing service will include a new online portal where people will be able to get advice about their housing, apply for a home, and then look for available homes and note an interest in any which suit their priority banding. If you are looking for housing in Edinburgh, Edindex will still be the online portal used to apply for housing.
