Sustainability leads the way at SIBS

T

o mark World Oceans Day on 8 June, this year, British Marine pledged to make the 2021 edition of the

Southampton International Boat Show (SIBS) the most sustainable and environmentally-friendly in its 52-year history. Taking place from 10-19 September,

the event sees hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of visitors attending the event. The footprint of the show covers over 65,000 sq m, with moorings for over 350 boats, making it Europe’s largest temporary marina. Visitors at the show will be able to buy some of the newest and most

advanced products made from recycled and recyclable materials, and discover the latest technological advances designed to protect the environment, with specific advice and guidance available from The Green Blue stand. A joint initiative between British Marine and the RYA, The Green Blue highlights sustainable and environmentally-friendly products and services through its Green Blue Business Directory. For 2021, British Marine has focused on eight distinct areas for change at the show. Categories include: Plastics; Paper; Catering; Waste and Recycling; Our Home; Travel; Access and

Education; and Awareness. For exhibitors that go the extra

mile, there is also the opportunity to enter the SIBS Exhibitor Sustainability Award, which will be presented by Mike Golden, The Green Blue’s ambassador, on Press Day (10 September). Entries need to be received by British Marine before 10 August, highlighting the sustainability actions being taken by them both at the show and within their organisations. Seawork Connect launched by Mercator

Given the international audience that Seawork attracts every year, an in-person exhibition in 2021 is clearly not going to be possible as travel restrictions across Europe and the rest of the world are changing all the time. This presents an ideal time for

Mercator to launch Seawork Connect – a new dimension to Seawork and the Marine & Coastal Civil Engineering Expo (M&CCE) of the future. This is a virtual exhibition, with rich and engaging content that enables visitors and exhibitors to meet and develop business. Mercator will hold Seawork Connect from 5-7 October to help business

The company is also working with all its supporting associations so their latest developments can be presented to a wider audience. Visitors will be registered and

exhibitors will be able to see their profiles and organise meetings with them at stands or designated meeting areas. The platform also offers a clever AI-based

Seawork Connect will become a permanent part of Seawork and M&CCE, not just because it reaches a larger international audience, but because it offers additional features such as videos, rich content, longer exposure and more data-focussed results. The next in-person Seawork and

M&CCE exhibition will take place from 21-23 June, 2022. Seawork info@seawork.com www.seawork.com
