This month’s Cheltenham Food and Drink Festival sees lots of culinary experts sharing their wisdom at Chef’s Kitchen and one of those is talented young chef Joe McCarthy from the Wychwood in the Cotswolds.
Joe has been head chef at the award-winning Oxfordshire inn (it offers five luxurious rooms) since 2013 and prides himself on a varied menu of both pub classics and fine dining dishes, all using the best local and seasonal ingredients.
Born in Cheltenham, Joe began working in hospitality as a teenager, joining the kitchen at the acclaimed Lords of the Manor in Upper Slaughter where he was employed as the pot washer. It was around the same time the hotel and restaurant had just been awarded their first Michelin star and it really opened his eyes to food.
