Circuit symbols and diagrams
The different parts of a circuit are called the components. When you want to show what a circuit is made of, it would take a long time to draw every component. Instead, we use symbols to represent the components. This is called a circuit diagram. The table below lists the different components of a circuit and their symbols.

Look at the photograph and diagram of the circuit below. The photograph on the left is what the circuit looks like. The diagram on the right is a circuit diagram of the same circuit.
