Examples of different living things


Plants and animals are examples of living things. Even bread mould, the green or black fungus that grows on old bread, is a living thing. The smallest living things are germs. They are so small that you cannot see them unless you look at them under a microscope. Look at the different sizes of the living things in Figure 2. Germs are even smaller than a mosquito.

Did you know?


An elephant is about 700 cm long from head to tail. A cattle egret is about 50 cm long and a mosquito is about 5 mm long. A germ is 1 000 times smaller than 1 mm!
