Designing


Learners identify the following materials:  Balloon   Fishing line/string/thread   Sticky tape   Plastic straw 


Learners draw a plan of their rocket. Award marks for the following:  Drawing is relevant and practical   Drawing is coloured in 


Making


Learners write four sentences to describe the steps they take to make their rocket. (They must not copy the steps from the Learner’s Book.)


Step 1 Tie one end of the fishing line to a desk on one side of the classroom.  Step 2 Thread the fishing line or string through the straw. Tie the loose end to a desk on the other side of the classroom. 


Step 3 Blow up a balloon and tape it to the straw.  Step 4 Let go of the open end of the balloon and watch what happens. 


Evaluating


Learners blow the balloon up and let it go. They measure the distance it travels three times.
