Results and conclusions


Learners are helped to form their own conclusions in the intermediate phase by means of questions. These questions appear in the activities. These stipulate the results and then help the learners draw conclusions.


Learners are often asked to write their results in a table so that they can compare


them, especially when conducting an experiment with multiple variables. Discussion


This section helps learners to understand the importance of their conclusions. You can ask learners the following questions:  What has this experiment helped you to understand?  Why is this useful?


Note: Not all the experiments in the Learner’s Book follow the scientific method. Only those with a reference to the worksheet follow the method above.


Teaching the design process


Learners are introduced to the technology design process in the intermediate phase by means of various technology projects that appear in each strand of the Learner’s Book. A simplified design process has been compiled in the form of a worksheet and placed on page 7 of the Learner’s Book. This worksheet may be photocopied and given to learners to design their technology projects and to familiarise them with the design process that they should follow when doing projects. This simplified process includes the following:


Investigate


This initial process asks learners to investigate solutions to the problem stated at the beginning of the technology activities. Learners must research what technology can solve the problem and how it can solve the problem. Ask learners the following questions to help them complete this aspect of the worksheet:  What problem are you facing?  How can the problem be solved?  What technology can solve this problem?


Plan and design


The learners’ investigations into their problem will spark some ideas on how to solve it. They must start writing down ideas and drawing plans to solve their problem. This 31
