Independent activities
LB p. 6; WB p. 6
Independent activities are done in order for learners to develop and consolidate their knowledge and skills. It is also for learners to continue learning while the teacher is busy with the focus groups.
Instructions LB p. 6: Get learners to discuss the picture in pairs. Encourage learners to look at all the activities taking place and at what the children are wearing. Learners must decide which season it is. Ask them to count the butterfl ies, sheep, apples, children and insects. They can compare answers in small groups.
WB p. 6: Learners consolidate their knowledge of the seasons and counting. Learners must circle the day they complete the activity, on the days of the week listed at the top of each page. 1 Learners count the people and fl owers, and fi ll in the number in the space provided.
2 Learners circle what the weather is like, the season it is and in which season each child’s birthday is.

Teacher-guided activities
Hold up one object. Ask learners to identify how many objects. Write the number (numeral) 1 on the board, showing the correct formation. Learners can write ‘1’ in the air, on their hands, on their friends’ backs, etc. Show how the number name (one) is written. Repeat the exercises as for the numeral 0. Ask two learners to each hold up one pencil, and another learner to hold up two pencils. Ask: Who has more? Who has less? Who has as many as ...? Repeat this with different objects until learners understand the concepts of more and less.
