FROM THE EDITOR OR
Welcome to the April/Mayissue of Central Horse News.
Sincethe last issue,I took abrief step back from CHN to look after my 83 year old father who contractedCovid-19 during the firstweek of February. His subsequent passing on the 23rdMarch shook myself and my sister-in-lawand colleague,Sharon Dodd, to the core. Therehas thereforebeen aslight delayingoing to presswith this issue.Weapologise forthe lateness and hope to be back on schedule with the June/July issue.
We all have special horseymemoriesofour lovedones. Mine of my father, was at Banbury Cattle Market approximately 40 yearsago.Hetook me to the Horse Sale there, justfor alook Iimagine.I wasgiven firm instructions ‘not to wave arms about’and to ‘keep quiet’. Arather large baybroodmare came through the ring, and the bidding quickly shot up to a very weighty figure. The Auctioneer tapped his hammer then pointed in our direction “Sold… to Mr Dodd”!!! Iquickly turned to my Dad, who looked fairly purple at this point in time, saying “but, Dadit’sfar toobig forme”.I remember feeling excited and horrified at the same
time.MyDad’swords echoed “I told youtokeep still”!!! We were both quickly put out of our misery, asa gentleman behind us acknowledged his purchase; the gentleman wasalso called Mr Dodd!
As Covid-19 leaves avastdestruction in itspath, we noware heading out of Lockdown. Sportsare coming back under wayand shops slowly reopen. We hope this will be the last Lockdown, and that we will get to see some of the big Shows/ Eventsinthe latter part of 2021.
In this issue, weare pleased to bring back the CHN Diary Dates. Feeling optimistic, we include the annual ShowDay
Planner.Thiscan be pulled out and laminated forrepeated use throughout the showseason.
Ihope youenjoy this issue. See
youinJune.Stay safe.
