10 Things to do with Children 2

1

Crabbing Grab some bacon and a bucket, find a prime spot

on the beautiful embankment and dangle a line into the water.

Crabbing is very straightforward, but strangely addictive and some families have been honing their techniques and handing them down the generations for many decades. It’s a big hit with children - some enjoy the thrill of handling these fascinating crustaceans, others prefer to stand at arm’s length from those pesky pincers! Buckets and lines are available from many of the shops in Dartmouth e.g. Holland’s Leisure & Footwear, South Embankment - they’re environmentally friendly too - see advert page 70

Dartmouth Castle Learn how to

fire a cannon and pretend to be an 18th century guardsman at Dartmouth Castle. For over 600 years the fortress has protected the harbour and town. Young explorers can try on heavy helmets, pick up cannon balls and hide in underground passages. see page 34

Paignton Zoo Paignton Zoo is a must with over 200 animals, 6

animal habitats and its own Jungle Express train. With conservation at its heart there is no better place to visit with the animal lovers in the family. Book your tickets at Paigntonzoo.org or see advert page 45
