British people through nature and a love of the great outdoors. The nation is being called upon to create the largest virtual gathering of floral crowns and so get creating and planning your post for the day - @GardenDay and #GardenDayUK. (If you don’t fancy getting practical, having had enough of glue and cereal boxes during home schooling, you can always use their special crown filter!). We are also being asked to share images of our favourite green spaces – let’s make sure that Gloucestershire & Herefordshire are well represented!

If you don’t take my word for it, then Gloucestershire’s very own top garden presenter and writer, and a truly fabulous lady who I am proud to have spent many hours with over the years, Rachel de Thame, is one of the event’s Floral Crown Ambassadors. She says “Now more than ever, we’ve all seen how gardens can make a powerful difference to our wellbeing. It doesn’t seem to matter

whether you’ve got window boxes, a suburban plot or a country home - the effect is the same. There have been times when I have been really reliant on my garden to see me through challenges with my health and to keep me sane. Garden Day is all about celebrating the joy we get from gardens. Make a flower crown from whatever you can find! Be creative - you can use weeds, greenery from shrubs and trees, or dig out beans and carrots from the fridge!”

More detail and ‘how to’ videos can be found at www.gardenday.co.uk/getinvolved.

So whether you are a seasoned old horticultural hand or one of the new 3 million individuals who have taken up gardening during lockdown, with so much on offer across the botanical board, you won’t be disappointed.
