Station’s new entrance ‘the gateway to town’

AN UPGRADED Maidstone East railway station’s new entrance has been revealed to the public. It is the latest part of a £2.5m pro- ject, expanding the station to ac- commodate thousands more passengers attracted as part of a town centre regeneration, led by Kent County Council (KCC). The work, due to be complete in the spring, will boast a landscaped entrance, new roof, a glass front and facilities for passengers and staff, including a waiting room, café, ticket office and staff room. Work started in September 2019

and was held up by the Coron- avirus pandemic. It is funded through a national stations’ im- provement programme with the South East Local Enterprise Part- nership’s Local Growth Fund pro- gramme. Fiona Taylor, Network Rail's route director for Kent, said: “This is an excellent example of the rail- way working with local authorities

and third parties for the benefit of passengers, communities and busi- nesses in Kent.” Michael Payne, KCC’s cabinet member for Highways and Trans- port, said: “We are delighted to see this impressive station forecourt nearing completion.

“It helps redefine Maidstone East as a destination station and gateway to the town centre. “This investment gives further weight to the campaign supported

by KCC for a better and faster Thameslink train service to connect Maidstone with the city of Lon- don.”

Caroline Wallis, Southeastern manager for Maidstone East, said: “We’re really pleased with how the upgrade is progressing. It looks great and it is a much more pleas- ant environment.

“I’m sure passengers will be im- pressed with how the gateway to their town is looking.”

News Site upgrade

PLANNING permission has been granted for improvement works at a caravan park in Marden. Stilebridge caravan site will be

Maidstone Borough Council’s planning committee unanimously agreed the plan.

During these difficult times, due to Covid restrictions, we have worked very hard to ensure each and every family still gets the personal service and that all their require- ments are fulfilled within the everchanging guidelines. We can offer lots of alternatives to the standard funeral and can arrange everything for you.

Michael Lawrence said: ”the loss of a loved one is never easy to cope with, and the added stress of making the arrangements can often bring further emotional upset. With our experience of making funeral arrangements we have learned how to help families have and be part of a meaningful service that celebrates life. Our approach is

simple, we sit with you in our office or your home or over the phone, taking you slowly and methodically through the various decisions that you will face and the options available to you. Sometimes it’s just good to sit and talk to someone with experience and compassion before making a decision.”
