News Purse thefts
MAIDSTONE shoppers are being reminded to keep their purses and bags safe after victims were tar- geted in supermarket car parks. A woman in her 60s had her
purse stolen when she was dis- tracted by a man in Morrison’s carpark in St Saviour’s Road, Maidstone earlier this month. A bank card from the purse was
later used to make purchases and withdraw cash from ATMs.
Leisure plan
PEOPLE have been urged to visit Kent’s “lesser known” beauty spots as Coronavirus lockdown re- strictions begin to ease.
Kent County Council has un-
veiled an action plan to maximise the use of nine country parks in its 12 districts over the next six years.
Car park shut
THE overflow car park at Mote Park will remain closed for the foreseeable future to avoid over- crowding. The decision has been met with a backlash from local residents, who fear visitors will park in the surrounding roads instead.

£12m travel boost in Aylesford site plan
A DECISION on the future of the Aylesford Newsprint site will be made later this month.
The old plant is due to be turned
into a £180m warehousing, logistics and distribution facility, which de- velopers Panattoni claim will cre- ate more than 5,000 jobs. The company plans £12m im-
provements to local railway sta- tions, buses, footpaths and cycle routes. These include a £7 million pub- lic link road connecting Station Road and Bellingham Way, as well as a pedestrian crossing at Ayles- ford railway station.
A new bus service will operate
every 30 minutes between New Hythe, Aylesford and Maidstone and require four new stops plus improved facilities. Panattoni will fund this for five years. A new link road will reduce traf- fic using junctions four and five of the M20 and along Leybourne

Way, claims the developer. Kent Wildlife Trust will oversee a £500,000 investment in local pro- jects, including a site in Boughton Monchelsea. Anthony Watkins, development director at Panattoni, said: “By im- proving transport facilities and ser- vices, and improving safety, we hope to encourage more people to walk and cycle, while having a bet- ter experience when using Ayles-
ford and New Hythe stations.” The company predicts by 2024, the 90-acre site will deliver more than £162m of economic value an- nually to Tonbridge & Malling bor- ough and generate 3,000 industrial, logistics, distribution and manu- facturing jobs as well as another 2,000 plus ancilliary, indirect posts. A decision on the planning ap- plication is expected later this month.
