News Garden village
plan at Detling A PLANNING application has been submitted by Quinn Estates to Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) for a “garden village” at Binbury Park on Detling Hill. MBC has two massive develop- ments at Lenham Heath and Lids- ing in its revised Local Plan. Already rejected, Binbury Park, which is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, could help MBC meet Government housing targets. But Quinn has previously estab- lished “essential need” to develop an AONB in East Kent. If the plan is rejected, the devel-
oper could tappeal or influence progress of procedures in the Local Plan revision. The outline application includes land next to the County Show- ground stretching to Binbury Lane for 1,750 houses. With expansion towards Stockbury, this could rise to 4,000. The Binbury application also in- cludes 46,000sqm of commercial space, hotel, pub and restaurant, shops, primary school, park-and- ride facility, road improvements and a country park.
