of the COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test or just temperature screening, is employed. Additionally, the CDC has published screening questions that can be used in conjunction with physical screening. Although temperature checks are only 50% accurate, individuals having body temperatures greater than 100.40F (380C) should be considered at risk of being infected.

Whether testing

positive or simply displaying a high body temperature, any individual being considered at risk are protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act. As a result, “reasonable accommodations” must be made for the attendee’s participation.

Vaccinations There are currently three vaccines that have

been granted Emergency Use

Authorization (EUA) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. These are the Pfizer-BioNTech, the Moderna and the Janssen COVID-19 Vaccines.

The

following table depicts comparative data for the three vaccines. It should be noted that in the case of the Pfizer and Moderna products, side effects are more prevalent after the second dose. On January 21st, U.S. President

Joe Biden signed 10 executive orders, invoking the Defense Production Act in a “wartime undertaking” to boost production of vaccine supplies while also requiring travelers to the United States to get a test before flying. On March 2nd, the President said the United States would have enough Covid-19 vaccine doses for every adult American by the end of May, dramatically accelerating the vaccine production timeline by two months. This acceleration is largely due to the Janssen vaccine approval and the formation of new partnerships between US drug manufacturers to produce the vaccines. Individuals receiving a COVID-19

vaccine, regardless of manufacturer, should still exercise safe social practices, as they can still become contaminated with the disease and infect others, even though they themselves do not become infected.

Additionally, with the emergence of new variants of the ®

disease, vaccine effectiveness is in question.

Code of Conduct To ensure the safety, health and comfort of event participants, a Code of Conduct addressing the safe, healthy behavior of attendees, exhibitors, presenters, staff, venue employees and any outside contractors supporting the event is of benefit to all. A properly prepared code of conduct should address all aspects of an event from check-in to closing ceremonies, highlighting any unique aspects

of planned activities where special care should be taken.

Working to Ensure Your Safety The ICI is currently drafting its code of conduct for the World Conference on Investment Casting, taking place at the Disneyland Hotel on October 24-27. This document will address proper use of PPE, social distancing, sanitation and participant screening. When complete, the WCIC Event Code of Conduct will be published in INCAST Magazine, appear on our website and will be provided to all event participants. In preparation of this document, the ICI is working closely with the Disneyland Hotel to ensure that the Code meets

all resort requirements.

Though Disney has yet to publish guidelines for event and theme park attendance in California, the company has done so for Walt Disney World in Florida. Kristen DelCont, Senior Sales Manager for the Disneyland Resort, has indicated that the published guidelines will likely be very similar with minor modifications for compliance with State of California regulations and will be

made available when the theme park opens later this year. To view the Walt Disney World Resort “Know Before You Go” publication, go to:

The WCIC Event Code of Conduct will not require attendees to disclose whether they have been vaccinated, as this would violate attendee rights as ensured by HIPPA, but the proper use of face masks and good sanitary practices will be required. The Institute plans on having plenty of facemasks and hand sanitizer on hand, as well as supplies to sanitize surfaces in the conference and exhibit areas. The greatest challenge with which we will be confronted in preparing the Code of Conduct will be in determining what

reasonable accommodations

can be made for individuals exhibiting symptoms. Clearly we must comply with the ADA, but what is “reasonable”. For concerns of this nature, the ICI will seek the advice of industry experts and legal professionals. As the time for our event draws near, we will continue to stay apprised of CDC, federal and local government guidelines for events of this nature, as well as attending training programs designed to ensure your safety at ICI events. The ICI and the Meetings & Events Staff at the Disneyland Hotel assure you that we will be doing everything possible to make your visit to the 15th World Conference on Investment Casting a safe and magical experience.
