O’Fallon Casting Consolidates Multi-Piece Assembly into Single Piece Casting

Working with the customer, O’Fallon Casting consolidated a multi-piece fabrication into a single investment cast component, affording the customer the opportunity to reduce the overall size of the pump housing as well as the costs associated with assembly and multi-component sourcing. This pump housing casting contains multiple

interconnected core passages throughout the inside of the casting, with varying diameters and depths. The combination of thin walls in certain areas, large masses of metal in others, a very tight profile tolerance, grade B metallurgical requirements and high pressure tightness requirements make this component a challenge that is ideally suited for the investment casting process.

PART: Pump Housing Size: 11 x 8 x 7 in. Alloy: C355-T6

Artcast’s WWI Canadian Flying Ace Memorialized in Bronze Artcast was called upon to produce a monumental

sculpture of Canadian World War I flying ace Roy Brown, who was credited with shooting down the “Red Baron”, Manfred von Richthofen, in April 1918. Incorporating the use of 3D scanning technology and

additive manufacturing, saved their client weeks to months of work. Having the digital file allowed them create the sculpture in any scale for the client. For this project, Artcast made smaller, four or five-inch-tall versions of the casting, which were used for donor recognition. The scanning and printing process has become a necessary part of Artcast’s process for enlargements, and costs are becoming more reasonable as the processes are being perfected.

PART: Monumental Sculpture Size: 72 inches tall Alloy: Bronze

Notes: Employed use of digital scanning and 3D printing to produce in various sizes.
