Ibrought up Marshal’s, his 5th generation did not go back farenough datewise so looking down the listI clicked on the firstEnglish name on the list. And thereitwas ‘Tehran’.I had found my connection without even looking. Marshal came to us broken but maybe it was
This showedrecently when my daughter
came to ride him and see howhewas going. He refused to
leavemyside.The panic came creeping back. Iwalked with him stroking him and talking to him until he wasready to move away.When he realized this riding wasdifferent, he relaxed and gave everything he could. He will be 7inMarch, still so young and yethe
has been through so much. He has along wayto go but he has anew career ahead on the days he wantstodoit. Thisstory is not so different from asoldiers;
some days aregood, some arebad. Certain things bring back memoriesand pain and hurt. Learning to be an everyday person with so
much inside is difficult and not all canmove on so
easily.Working slowly and steadily youcan gain ground. Bad days,good days,all aretaken intoconsideration.
Marshal’sstory is not unusual but also there
areotherswith different stories. Marshal will become one of our horsesthathelp
with PTSD,heunderstands morethanweknow. Nowthis is wherehis story is very special to
me.MyDad died the dayafter my 10th birthday. Iknewhe flew in mid upper gunner in Lancasters during the warbut nothing else,and to be truthful it wasnot mentioned much at home and Iwas not that interested. So,when4years ago we movedtoLincolnshireand Idiscovered aphotoofaLancasterinanold pot, Iput apost on Facebook and asked forany information. Well, it turned out my Dadhad been stationed not farfromwhereIwas living and that two of his crew were still alive. Icould not have been more stunned. The familiescontactedme, and Igot to meet one of my Dad’soldest friends. Iwas told astory about their Lancaster. Theynamed their
