ellow Membe r s and Friends,

January seems to have flown

by and we’ve been fortunate in St Andrews to have escaped the worst of the snow and flooding which has affected other parts of the country. There have been many frosty days but the sun has been shining and the days are lengthening and now there is also more light at the end of the virus tunnel. In the coming weeks many of the club members will be receiving vaccinations. However, it’s a long road and any foreign travel still appears a long way off. No immediate need, but my passport runs out in mid- February and gives me the opportunity to replace the horrendous photograph of a thuggish-looking gangster I’ve had for the last 10 years with something a bit friendlier. I think that staycations will be the order of the day this year though Florida in the winter is appealing. Is that not where ex-presidents go? I did chuckle when I saw departing Donald Trump heading off on Air Force

FEBRUARY 2021 : ISSUE 142

One to Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach accompanied to the Sinatra classic ‘My Way’. Incidentally, did you know that Donald Trump, is reported to be a past-president of the Rotary Club of New York 6? At the time of writing, I’ve just digested a portion of haggis, neeps and tatties. Delicious, and so says my three- year-old grandson, James, in London who tried the Burns Supper delicacy for the first time and loved it after being told it was “special sausages insides.” I enjoyed our own online Burns social evening with Wilda’s excellent Rockstar Poet on Tour presentation and Mike’s renditions of ‘Rantin,’ Rovin’ Robin ‘and Auld Lang Syne. Many thanks to all the social committee. Thanks also to speakers Hugh Elliott and Iain Fraser. Hugh’s talk made me now realise how complex was the i s sue of amalgamating health and social s t ruc tures in Fi fe f rom a budgetary viewpoint.
