For starters I had the Chicken and Duck Terrine with red onion chutney, crispy onions and croutes. It was very tasty indeed, I didn't know what I would think about the crispy onions but they really complemented the dish well. Dean chose the Parsnip and Apple Soup accompanied with cheese on toast! It was a lovely homemade soup and Dean particularly loved the cheese on toast. James, the restaurant manager, said they now served that with all the soups as there were such a hit with everyone. Mum wanted to save herself for the main and dessert, but couldn’t resist a quarter piece of Dean's cheese on toast as she wished she had ordered something when our starters came.


For the main course Mum decided to have her first Roast Turkey of the season, which was accompanied with pigs in blankets, sage and onion stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes. Dean and I both opted for the Roast Topside of Beef with Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes. We had the festive vegetables in dishes to help ourselves to, which were red cabbage, Brussel sprouts and roasted carrots and parsnips. We had gravy boats of both beef and turkey gravy. It was all delicious and the roast potatoes and the matching gravies were perfect, and tasted very much like homemade.


We chose a favourite red wine of ours to accompany our lunch, which in fact was on the wine menu marked 'We recommend' - a Malbec from Argentina called Trapiche Perfiles Malbec Textura Fina, it was more expensive than their house Argentinian Malbec but well worth it. The description says - Perfiles Malbec is a true reflection of how a superior Malbec should taste. It is made from fruit grown at nearly 1,000 metres above sea level which helps to give the wine aromas of black plum, violet, mineral and aromatic spices. In the mouth the tannins melt away and a subtle acidity keeps it fresh. We all loved it and it disappeared very easily.


To finish Mum and Dean both had the Christmas Pudding with Brandy Sauce which they both loved and Dean said you could certainly taste the Brandy. I chose the Chocolate Brownie which comes with chocolate sauce and mulled forest fruits, but I asked for a scoop of vanilla ice cream too, which I always love with a brownie. We were all very full and declined coffee as we felt we needed a Christmas afternoon walk.


My Mum requested we take her there for her birthday in February as the food was so nice and we had such a lovely time and hopefully I might even manage a visit to their spa this month.
