Industry News Ingram Micro sold to private equity
As one of the big names in UK dis- tribution, news of Ingram Micro’s ac- quisition by US equity firm Platinum Equity Partners for US$7.2 billion will make an impact on the distribution scene. This will not necessarily come as a surprise.
Previously owned by the HNA Group, a Chinese air carrier, HNA told Chi- nese regulators in May that it missed a $750 million payment on a US$4 bil- lion loan that was used to buy Ingram Micro. While new owner, Platinum Equity Partners, has US$23 billion in assets under management, the ac- quisition removes any financial cloud hanging over Ingram Micro Ingram Micro said the Platinum Eq-

The deal marks a re-emergence of distribution that will bring big benefits to solution providers. It comes just six months after distributor Tech Data was acquired by Apollo Global Manage- ment, brings a powerful private equity punch to the distribution market that will lead to creative new solution offer- ings for partners. Exertis has announced that their Ex- ertis Pro AV brand is expanding across Europe, North America, Latin Ameri- ca, Australia and Asia.
The expansion serves as a reminder of Exertis’ ability to provide a grow- ing global network of manufacturer partners with a single, easy-to-access platform to a worldwide market of technology buyers. Exertis taken the brand name global with the launch of Exertis Pro AV, the first in a series of Exertis specialist brands that will fol- low over the next several years. The 2018 acquisition of Stampede accelerated the initiative with Stam- pede Europe merging with Medium under the Exertis Pro AV brand that launched the same year. The scope expanded in 2019 with the inclusion of Stampede Asia and Australia under the brand. Now, Exertis-owned Stampede in North America will be named Exertis. The Exertis brand will anchor Stam-
pede in the United States, Canada and Latin America with Exertis Pro AV and other specialist brands to follow. Exertis Go Connect, which operates in the Benelux region, will also now align under the Exertis Pro AV brand.
