Audio detection in conferencing spaces – a new approach

Are you struggling to equip your conference rooms with clear, consistent audio? You’re not alone. Obtaining high-quality audio in conference rooms has been a chal- lenge for decades. And with the rise in remote meetings due to COVID-19, finding a solution to this problem is more important than ever. Erica Yorga of Nureva why is great meeting room audio still such a challenge

Microphone Mist technology represents an entirely new approach to the acoustic space. It opens up a world of possibilities, where hanging one audio conferencing system on a wall results in true full-room audio coverage.

So why is great meeting room audio still such a challenge? It turns out that a lot of factors are working against it. To start, rooms allocated for confer- ence calls often focus first on accom- modating an interactive touch screen and a certain number of people in the room. Optimal room acoustics and microphone conference system place- ment is usually not a consideration un- til it comes time to install the system. To further complicate things, bringing in an acoustician when a building is being designed to optimise the room acoustics is rarely a high priority. Of- ten these spaces include elements such as large glass walls or big tables with hard surfaces that create a rever- berant environment not suitable for audio conferencing. Frequently, natu- ral lighting and the need to create an open and lively atmosphere get priori-

tized over suitable room acoustics. Add to this the complexity of dynamic seating arrangements and the need for spaces to be multiuse, and the micro- phone system has a very difficult job to provide the UC&C client with the high-quality audio stream required today. To deal with changing require- ments and difficult room acoustics, systems can become overly complex and costly to purchase, install, setup and reconfigure as the needs in the space change.

It all adds up to frustrating meetings where people calling in struggle to hear their teammates in the room. Or where IT wastes time troubleshooting problems that never seem to end.

A novel approach Solving persistent problems often re-

quires thinking about things differ- ently. That’s why Nureva developed a totally new approach to microphone system audio detection and audio pickup called Microphone Mist tech- nology.

This patented and proprietary tech- nology means that audio conferenc- ing systems are easy to install in any environment. Everything is plug and play, so it’s always UC&C ready. Plus it’s flexible enough to perform in any suitably sized space such as audio/ video conference rooms, collaboration spaces, classrooms and more. But the biggest game-changing fea- ture is the revolutionary new way it provides true full-room coverage, all without needing complex multicompo- nent setups.

Microphone Mist technology is de- signed to completely cover the
