Saving Your Brain from Alzheimer’s

M

Stop Treating Symptoms When You Can Get to the Root of Your Health Issue

U 6

nderstanding your own personal health can be a bit difficult and not everyone will have the same journey or the same body. I am a firm

believer that you have to customize lifestyle habits to fit the unique indi- vidual in order to see results. I take an all-around approach to wellness in- corporating nutrition, fitness, motivation, and mindfulness to help individ- uals stay on track and reach their potential health. Having a dietitian with a deeper knowledge of nutrition and tools such as assessing your DNA, gut microbiome, inflammation markers, hormones, food sensitivities, toxins, and stress allows me to put the pieces of the puzzle together to give you a better understanding of your healing journey. Our health is our most important asset and investment and better living

starts with better eating. As a Registered Dietitian (RD), Integrative and Functional Nutrition Specialist, Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE), mind- fulness coach, and RYT 200 yoga instructor, my goal is to help you reach your optimal health through healthy lifestyle changes. I like to get to the root of the health issue and help individuals live optimally, feel their best, and improve the quality of their lives. Nutrition has always been my mission and I have been an advocate for

healthy eating and lifestyle habits since I was a teen. I have been an ath- lete, wife, entrepreneur, and mom, but I am also a human being. I realize that it is hard to balance everything, including your health, and making time can be a struggle. I can help guide you by providing you with the expertise and knowledge to organize key areas of your life to facilitate improved health.

Betsy Opyt is a Licensed and Registered Dietitian as well as a Certified Diabetes Educator, Integrative and Functional Medicine Nutrition Therapist, and RYT200 yoga teacher. She specializes in nutrigenomics, gut health, food sensitivities, detoxing, inflammatory diseases, and longevity living. She understands the importance of living a mindful life and incorporates her back- ground of mindfulness and yoga teaching to her practice. Betsy is a profes- sional speaker and advocate for healthy living and is available for individual consultations, group programs, and speaking engagements. ost people do not realize that Alz- heimer’s and dementia are the same.

Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia accounting for 70% of those afflicted below the age of 71 and 90% over the age of 71. Parkinson’s accounts for the next largest group of dementia patients. Alzheimer’s is known for its characteristic beta amyloid plaquing and Tau protein ac- cumulation. The production of beta occurs in many cells and is protective in nature. Beta acts as an antibiotic, protecting our precious neurons from infection. It also acts as a binder to heavy metals like aluminum and mercury which are both neurotoxic and accumulate in the brain. Beta production increases when blood sugar levels exceed normal levels. Beta production is a natu- ral protection mechanism to help protect the brain. However, problems occur when chronic infections persist, blood sugars stay high for extended periods of time, and heavy metals accumulate in the brain. The beta amyloid plaquing occurs in an

attempt to wall off and protect areas of the brain from the above offenders. Our bodies are built for survival. It is better to die of Alzheimer’s after 15 plus years of plaqu- ing than to be overcome with infection, heavy metal poisoning, and the effects of high blood sugars. There will never be a magic pill for Alzheimer’s because it has multiple causes and pathways. The key is to make the production of the beta amyloid unnecessary. We do this by identifying and correcting chronic infections, by identifying environmental toxins and eliminating them from the body, and by controlling our blood sugar levels in the blood.
