exposed to more toxins than ever before, often through lack of knowledge. Think of your body as your terrain, is it healthy or is it depleted? Are you nourishing your body or are you throwing anything in your body and expecting it to deal with it? If we have healthy terrain, then we have a strong immune system and things like the coro- navirus don’t seem so scary. One of the influencers of our terrain is our gut

flora. Our digestive system is like its own eco- system containing hundreds of strains of good and bad bacteria. Optimally, we should have 85% good bacteria to 15% bad bacteria. Unfortunate- ly, for most of us, those numbers are inverse. This makes us more susceptible to illness, short-term and long-term. Many of the physical and mental disorders that plague America today start in the gut. Acid reflux, IBS, colitis, diverticulosis, and food allergies to name a few. Even seemingly unrelated issues such as autoimmune diseases, autism, heart disease, anxiety, depression and behavioral problems in children can be traced back to the gut. The gut helps to regulate weight, sleep and moods. It is estimated that 70% of our immune system is controlled in the gut! Sugar and refined carbohydrates, abundant

in our diets for the last generation, feed the bad bacteria and allow it to proliferate. This coupled with a diet high in processed foods and low in nutrition has created dysfunction within the gut. The good news is our inherent healing mecha- nism. Stop feeding the bad bacteria, nourish the good bacteria and watch your health improve. What is the best way to combat the virus? Eat truly healthy food, give your gut flora a healthy terrain, learn about toxins, stress management and sleep techniques, and look for ways to be hap- py, not worried. Am I overwhelmed by the virus? No. I believe

that the virus is serious for some but there are natural therapies that work very well. I think we need to start thinking for ourselves again and get ourselves healthy. •
